Revit stuck on splash screen

I updated Windows 10 last night, today, all Revit versions hang when the splash screen starts.

However, when I run Revit Viewer, it works just fine.

It seems that the RevitWorker.exe does not run when I start Revit and it does when I start Revit as a viewer.

There is also a Console Host that runs for viewer mode.

Hi @louisC6AEK

Sorry to hear that you are facing issues.

A corrupt installation may result in erratic startup behavior. This could be a result of a computer crash or the program not closing correctly.

The error log, or the Windows Event Viewer, may also refer to mshtml.dll as being a crashing module.

To correct startup corruption issues, there are a few things to try.

First, empty your temp folder.

  1. Close open programs
  2. Click the Windows Start button
  3. In the Run box type %TEMP% and press Enter
  4. Highlight the contents of the folder
  5. Press [Delete] and confirm
  6. If message displays indicating a file is in use, click "skip"
  7. When the delete is through, test

If this does not help, Repair or Reinstall the program through the Control Panel or uninstall the program completely, delete residual files and folders, and then reinstall the program.

  • Run the program on another user profile (preferably as an administrator)
  • Verify that the LMU.exe is running
  • Verify that Flexnet Service 64 is running as 'Automatic'
  • Turn of UAC and empty %TEMP% folder

Let me know if you have additional questions.

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question. Kudos welcome!

Regards,

I deleted temp files. No change

I uninstalled Revit 2017.

Reinstalled Revit 2017.

Got to a form to enter my serial number. Hangs there...

Hi @louisC6AEK

This failure could be related to a security restriction or corrupt library, since this is occurring during an installation.

Please remove and reinstall Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Libraries.

See HERE for more information

Let me know if that helps resolve your issue. If not we have to troubleshoot further by looking at your journal file.

Regards,

I have tried everything, but finally rolled back my Windows 10 to build 1703. There is clearly a problem with the 1709 build and Revit.

This.  I had to roll back to 1703 from 1709 as well.  While Revit didn't hang in my case, it ran super slow.

Could be that my Revit wasn't really hanging. Perhaps it was just taking 10 or 15 minutes to start up and I'm lacking the patience to wait that long.
The problem isn't with Revit though, it's Windows. A lot of people are complaining about the latest build.

Hi @louisC6AEK

Did the roll back to Windows 10  build 1703 actually help launch Revit?

We would like to see your journal to spot any behavior that results in this crash.

Hi Viveka,

Yes, after the rollback, everything is working again.

The Journal writes up to the line that says: 'C 08-Nov-2017 21:17:03.037;   0:< manage licensing

Nothing after that.
