Revit - Steel Roof Material Take - Off

Hello,

I am attempting to get a Sloped Glazing roof to report length of each material as well as width. Here is a screen shot of the material I'd like to report. I also want to be able to tag each individual panel. I Normally work on the MEP side of Revit so this is new to me. This is to order the proper amount of material for a steel roof and limit waste. Having number panels come to the jobsite would also expedite the install time.

It's a pretty straight-forward process. You can both tag the curtain panels and create a schedule to pull the count and dimensions of all the curtain panels. Where are you getting stuck?

The Panels themselves are not an editable family. I do not know how to correlate that. I cannot open the family to "edit" or change which parameters report or which do not. Length, Width, Area are not reporting parameters to the schedule. I am not certain how to make these shared parameters that will schedule. As far as tagging. What tag family would I use to tag the Individual Panels? I can only access the panels individual by right clicking on the edge of the roof pattern and clicking select panels on host. I know this is asking a lot, but can you give me a step by step guide to creating schedules and tagging in this instance?

It's not complicated. Just go to View Tab and select Schedule/Quantities and then select "Curtain Panel" as the category under New Schedule. Those parameters are all available fields that can be included in the schedule. You don't need to edit the families.

Okay, So I have got to this point but It will not report any width or Length that is on a hip or valley. IE. the panel is not "square cut" it is mitered at one end. Height and Width have multiple returns so do not report. The schedule gives a blank line. I would like it to always report the Largest length or width. I still have no idea how to tag an individual Panel. I do not know which family tags panels. I do not have a tag loaded and cannot find one that will tag a roof panel. Understand what I am saying? ...so you want a field to calculate an abstract nominal Height and Width of a polygonal system curtain panel? Whoa. I need to process this one a bit. 

Regarding tagging: just select "Tag by Category" and then tab-select a curtain panel. Presto; a tag will be placed, or you will be instructed to load one first. In the alternative, you can use "Tag All", but you need to have a Curtain Panel Tag loaded into the project first.

Yes, So in the MEP world, If I was making equipment or a fitting. I would dimension to that plane and make it a parameter that reports and is shared into my project on load, but since I cannot edit this family, I'm not sure how to do this. The curtain panel is more like a Mechanical System or Pipe Type that is a family but not editable. You may only duplicate or Edit Type and Type Properties. Working on the Architectural side is completely new to me. Thank You. BTW 
I made a generic family tag into a curtain panel tag and am using "mark". I would like the mark to populate automatically but It doesn't seem to. Simpleenough to label in the schedule.

Revit has a tool called "Element Positioning" located on the "Extension" Tab under "Tools". You could use this tool to automatically populate all the Curtain Panel Mark fields, each with a unique custom identifier.  It will tag them too. Check it out.

Try using a Basic wall type instead of System Panel and convert Curtain Wall into Parts and run a Parts schedule.

seems to me it would be less work doing what I suggested. Not that @ToanDN's approach is not good; it's just more complicated and may not work in all instances with only 4 adaptive points.

My question is this though, How do I get the panels to report when there is more than 1 width and more than 1 length? That is the problem I am having

Also I do not think that would work in the scenario I posted. I'm attempting it now and I have about 10 diferent points I would have to be able to touch. and with only 4 it would not accept any more points

Yes, we get it. But, think about it...what determines the "Height" and "Width" of a polygonal? This is kind of up for interpretation, don't you think? Revit would need to be sentient to figure that out.

This only works for vertical applications, not horizontal or slope systems.  When it works, there is no need to create parts, just schedule the walls directly.  With that said, if all the surfaces are vertical then this is a simpler approach.
