Revit Server through VPN

Hi everyone,

I have a question about using Revit Server through VPN between different countries - will that work or will we run into corrupted models etc. ?
I have read in other posts that work-sharing through VPN between different countries leads to corrupt models, does the same goes when using Revit Server ?

Revit Server + VPN : all that sounds to me like "headaches, corruption of models, problems". 

I highly recommend BIM360 (or their current name, I keep calling it BIM360).

No one can guarantee this will work in your environment this is something you will have to test

As far as corrupted models also no one can guarantee that will or won’t happen to you

Revitserver and VPN is a legit solution to work with Revit central models remotely.  I had worked with it for years without any issue about corrupted models, prior to switching to ACC recently. 

 With that said, ACC remains a superior choice for offering a host of other tools for model management and collaboration.

We are testing it now, for a few weeks of daily work with two 300mb projects, no issues other than slow sync when it is needed - 2~3 times a day. But I guess ACC will be as slow because everything depends on the internet speed..

Hello @ToanDN,

did you experience any slowdowns while using a VPN connected to the Revit Server? We are currently struggling with low throughput only for the Revit Server while using a VPN, making some very large models impossible to open.

I would be curious if there are any settings (VPN, Windows, Revit/Revit Server) that can be altered to improve the performance and what settings you were using (VPN encryption, etc.).

I did not, granted we only had a handful of users accessing the Revitserver at thaa time.  Unfortunately I can't share any VPN settings because I have stopped using revitserver it for at least 3 years in the favor of ACC.

Hi @ToanDN 

I'm trying to set up Revit Server to work between two offices in different cities (same country). Is there a resource that I can refer to when discussing with our I.T person (they have no BIM/Revit knowledge). I think eventually we will go to ACC, but this is just a stepping stone to get the 2 offices working together.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
