Revit Server, Project with a few revit links takes 30+ minutes to open

Hello,

I am working in Revit 2020.2, and we have a project with 4 buildings linked into it. All of these files live on our Revit server, the individual buildings open and sync quickly and just fine. The problem is when I go to open the "Parent Model" that all of the buildings are linked into it takes and extremely long time to open, maybe 3-10 minutes in office and 30+ minutes when I am working remotely even with a fast hardwired internet connection. I am assuming this is the case because Revit reloads the linked models every time. I know this probably goes against best means and methods but is there anyway to tell Revit to just open the DANG local copy as you had it last and not reload anything until you tell it to?

Hi @Anonymous ,

Quick question, when you are opening the federated model, what view (starting view) will it display? A 3D view or a  splash sheet/cover sheet?

Yes, we always use a splash screen. Thank you.

Hi @Anonymous , thanks for posting.  Do you have your links in separate worksets?  If so, try opening the file with the "Links" workset(s) closed by using "Specify..." in the Open dialog box.  If you do not, open the file normally and place the links on their own workset so you can open the file without links loaded.  See Add Elements to a Workset.

After opening the file (hopefully quicker), open the worksets to work as you normally would.

I hope this is helpful.

Hello Mark,

Thank you for your reply. I have reconfigured the file per your recommendation and the host model opens within seconds which is awesome! follow up question, this shouldn't have any affect on any annotations or dimensions or potentially remove them from the host model would it?

Hi @Anonymous ,

As long as the Revit are linked in your project, the annotations hosted to the model will not be removed. If you make your workset open again, all the related annotations will display again.
