Revit or Windows? Time stamp

Greetings all.

I'm sure others must have had this issue,

I have several Revit files that do not update to current time and date when viewed in the windows folder. It's like every copy of the file has the same date and time and not the current date but some date in the past.

If I make a copy and rename it, it will update to the current time, but will then just keep repeating the same date everytime I save. This is very inconvenient if you want to open an older file before changes were made to the current one.

This seems to be related to system crashes or file corruption and since I tend to copy files for new projects rather than starting with a template, it keeps repeating. But even new project files can dispaly this issue if I do something Revit doesn't like and it has to shut down.

Does anyone know the cause of cure for this?

Thank you.

sg

The default column in windows explorer, if you're using details view is Date Modified. It should have the right info. If not, you can right click on the column headers and choose to display other file details such as Date Created, Date last saved, etc. I assume it logically follows that Date Modified picks that data up. But if it isn't, try adding those other columns as see they have the right info.

I'm guessing you're seeing the Date created info, because Windows is smart enough to figure out that when you save, it's the same file, even though Revit is really renaming the previosly saved version to .0001 or whatever and then saving the new version without a backup number, and so the Date Created stays the same as the first time you ever saved the file. For me, the Date Modified and Date Last Saved both show the correct data.

Thanks, that's good information to have,  but in this case that's not the issue. For all other files and most other revit files, I get the last date saved or modified time and date in the Windows column under "Date". When I asked 'Revit or Windows' I'm pretty sure it's Revit, but it could be something about how the Revit file is communicating with windows???

Something is clearly damaged in these particular files but I don't know what. Otherwise the files function just fine. No other issues. Thanks again.

sg.

Ooops! I now understand what you mean.

I just played with the folder setings and changed the column heading from Date to Date Modified and it corrected the issue.

Apparently, and I didn't know this was possible, I have different folder settings in my various saved folders and that's what's causing the difference and problem.

thank you very much, problem solved.
