The base of the Revit program is the same.... when you get to the specific of Revit Architecture - everything is geared to Architecture. The ribbon is focused on architectural issues.

When you open Revit MEP - it is MEP based... that is the focus of the ribbon. You can run duct, piping, conduit and such in MEP and not Architecture.

They are just specificaly geared to handle either Architecture, MEP or Structure. but the base of the program works the same.

Does that make sense?

So is there no possible way in which to accomplish MEP work using Revit Architecture at all? (This is the program I currently have. Also, I have never seen/used Revit MEP at all.)  Therefore,  I have to buy the Revit MEP?

Unfortunately - no will not be able to accomplish MEP in Architecture.

You may want to contact your reseller to see about upgrading your current license of Revit Architecture to the Building Design Suite Premium. Under one license you will have the following software:

Autodesk® 3ds Max® Design, AutoCAD®, AutoCAD® Architecture,AutoCAD® MEP, AutoCAD® Structural Detailing, Autodesk® Showcase®, Autodesk® SketchBook® Designer, Autodesk® Revit® Architecture, Autodesk® Revit® MEP and Autodesk® Revit® Structure.

So you would be able to use the Revit MEP to do the things you need to do.

Thanks that is really helpful.

Would you happen to know how the Premium suite is setup?  Are all the applications under one license? Or each application has its own license? Or does it even matter since we have all hats under one roof?

I'm trying to figure out how to apply the applications to individuals' workstations whose skillsets are either arch/mep/structure...etc.

I really appreciate your insight.

all one license

you can not buy 1 license and split them up to multiple machines

One license is for the entire suite. You would need a seat per person if it is stand-alone or a network version with a set number of licenses for your office that everyone can pull from.

At each workstation - you will be able to select what software is loaded, you can pick and choose.

Which type of license applies to this?

At each workstation - you will be able to select what software is loaded, you can pick and choose.

So I can put

Joe's computer with RMEP

Jack's computer with RStruct

and Jill's computer with RArch

under a (standalone?/ MSSA?/ network?) license for the Autodesk Building Design Premium?

Sorry I am just trying to wrap my mind around this.

Thanks

technically you can't split products like that under 1 license

on 1 computer you can choose what software from the suite you want to install

you need to buy a network license and you can share that 1 license with multiple computers

only 1 computer can use any of the software in the suite at any given time

Correct, you cannot split the software onto separate machines.
You would need a seat for each person.

The software comes on a USB drive. When you start the install you can select the specific software to install on the computer. You may not want everyone to have everything.

The icons are different in the top left...and the shortcuts I believe have an A,S, or MEP in them.

Not a concern for 2017 though, as the individual editions are gone now.

Hi  Lisa,

so, what if I download Revit without anything else next to it? No Architecture nor MEP.

What does this version of Revit include?

Thanks in advance

Hello @Anonymous ToanDN is correct, when you get ‘Revit’, you are getting all versions - Arch, MEP and Structure. Each one has its own tab in the ribbon.
