It seems in the past with previous versions of Revit, I was able way to delete a material, and I would get a message/dialogue indicating if I wanted to replace the deleted material with another material. I have tried this with Revit Architecture 2020, however, it just simply deletes the material. Not interested in deleting an asset
I have added a screentshot.
Material or Asset? You should able able to delete a Material. Not an Asset.
Not interested in deleting an Asset. In previous versions of Revit, I thought I came across a situation where I was deleting a material and I thought a dialogue popped-up and asked if I wanted to replace that material with a different material. From time to time in projects I see Materials created or duplicated, in the case of my attached screenshot, I am wanting to use one and not have duplicates or similar materials such as this with just a hyphen within its name convention.
I'm amazed that Revit is allowing 2 Materials with the same name. I can't replicate. I can delete Material all day long and twice on Sundays.
Are you able to rename it?
Maybe we can figure it out by examining your file if you want to post it.
I am not certain if I was clear or not, from time to time within office, Revit Users don't realize that there may be a material already. In my screenshot (if you saw it), there is a material named Wood - Stud, and another named Wood Stud. If I have two basic walls one type is a 2x4 stud (core), Material: Wood - Stud, and 5/8" gyp board either side (Finish1 [4]) and another basic wall type is 2x6 stud (core), Material: Wood Stud, and 5/8" gyp board either side (Finish1 [4]). These two walls behave differently when they intersect one another. To me both core material should have the same material name.
So back to my original question, as stated with previous versions of Revit, I swore I ran into this situation of deleting a Material and I was prompted to replace it. I am exploring in using Dynamo perhaps to accomplish cleaning up like materials that are to be the same.
I tried my darndest to get Revit to throw that message in 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018 and 2017. No luck. I cannot remember ever seeing such a message going back to 2008. I kind of like the idea of it though. Could it have been thrown by third-party app?
