Revit LT 2017 Missing Content Libraries

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello All,

I've been having a rough time with trying to get my content libraries installed for Revit LT 2017 - the program came in an AutoDesk Design Suite package with AutoCAD LT 2017. I've done the typical run through of:

A. Going into the content libraries program in the Program Manager in the Control Panel and Uninstalling and Re-installing.

B. Going back to the content libraries and repairing them to see if that would work and get the error:

"The path you have specified for the default family template files is invalid."

Then:

C. Going back into the content program to add features; and this is where my main problem persists, I consistently get this window when I go in to add the content libraries:

REVIT_CONTENTPROBLEM.jpg

There are no content packs to add, and the folder location for Content Packs is empty as well - the folder location:

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RLT 2017\ContentPacks

Any help?

Best,

Sean

We've identified a sporadic issue that will result in content not being installed via the Revit LT 2017 web installer. After our investigation, we found that a required content file is not always included in the extracted files and its absence results in the installation bypassing Revit content files. We are investigating the root cause of this problem and hope to have a resolution in place soon. Until then, the following steps will allow you to work around this issue:

  1. From this post, download the Revit_2017_MasterXML.zip file and extract the contents to a local folder.
  2. Download and run the Revit LT 2017 web installer, Revit_LT_2017_G1_Win_64bit_wi_en-US_Setup.exe.
  3. When the initial Autodesk Revit LT dialog is displayed, click Cancel.
  4. Copy the master.rlt.xml file that was extracted in step 1 and paste it into the C:\Autodesk\WI\Autodesk Revit LT 2017\Content\Revit folder.
  5. Launch the Revit LT 2017 installer using the Revit_LT_2017_G1_Win_64bit_wi_en-US_Setup_webinstall.exe that should reside in your Downloads folder or the folder to which the original Revit_LT_2017_G1_Win_64bit_wi_en-US_Setup.exe was downloaded.
  6. Step through the installation and when you get to the product selection page, expand the Revit LT 2017 Content Libraries entry and verify that the list of content packs is populated and at least one of the underlying option is selected.
  7. Collapse the Revit LT 2017 Content Libraries entry and click Install.

Once the appropriate master XML file is extracted and copied to the appropriate ...\Content\Revit folder, the installation of Revit content should complete successfully.

Thank you,

I was having problems initially, but I just had to un-install the program and file folders altogether and reinstall for it to work.

I appreciate the help!

Powell,

I believe the second step describing to download and run the exe. installer for Revit implies that you would have to uninstall the existing, to my understanding, if you were to install the file over the existing one an error would occur that Revit was already installed and wouldn't let you proceed after you copy the master file into the appropriate folder.

At least, that is what happened for me, it was necessary for me to re-install Revit.

Hi, I'm also struggling with this.  It's driving me bonkers and seriously affecting my work.  I've tried this and several other methods, but none are giving me any joy.

I'm running windows on a Mac via parallels.  Windows 10, but I have recently upgrade from 8 and was having the same problem there.  Revit LT suite 2017 Uk metric.

When run the Revit LT setup as suggested in your reply I get a communication failure.  I have also tried through control panel to reinstall and to add libraries, but the XML file does not seem to be visible to the installer.

Please help before I jump ship to ArchiCAD! Thanks

I've tried the various different advised solutions across the different threads relative to this problem - uninstall/reinstall of content library, replace XML file etc. but despite it saying that it has successfully downloaded and installed there is still no content library appearing in the advised location on my hard drive - been at this for a couple of days now and have used up most of my data allowance by repeatedly uninstalling and downloading. Please help!

@Anonymous The solution here seem to have solved the poster's problem but not yours. Maybe you should start a new question so someone can try solve the issue which seems more of a particular case for you. That usually works better than waiting on a solution to come when the original issue has been already marked as solution.

Firstly, we should ask Autodesk why they have released a faulty install to the world? After all we pay enough for the software and Autodesk has been creating installs for decades, so at the very least us customers should be able to expect is that the software can actually be installed properly, or else give us a discount or rental credits or a refund until they get it right! I wouldn't drive a new car off the forecourt if the engine won't start, so why do software developers always think it's OK for us customers to put up with faulty goods? Got to be something in the Sale of Goods Act in the UK about this at the very least.

Anyway, rant over, I've had the same problem with Revit LT 2017 from the Revit LT Suite 2017 product set.

I haven't tried the suggestion on this post yet, but this is the dirty fix I used...

When you install Revit LT a RVT 2017 folder gets created on this path:

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RLT 2017

I compared this folder with full Revit, which creates RVT 2017 folder on this path:

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 2017

The full Revit, which installed without any issues, has the following folders:

Family Templates

Libraries

Templates

along with a few others.

I did a test by copying these folders from RVT 2017 to RLT 2017.

Now I know I was copying MEP stuff and language specific stuff that Revit LT does not use, but what the heck, I wasn't going to sift through these folders and delete the non Revit LT items for my test.

Anyway, I restarted Revit LT, got the templates error dialog, dismissed this and got into Revit LT and selected R > Options > File Locations.

Then I repointed the Default path for family template files, and in Places repointed the Library and Detail Library paths as appropriate. Quit Revit LT, restarted and it all works now.

Obviously Autodesk will frown on this and tell me I may have missed some stuff Revit LT needs, but it seems OK for now.

So, I'm now waiting for a service pack upgrade/fix from Autodesk that fixes this fault.

Mind you, you won't be able to do this if you don't have full Revit installed on your network somewhere. But then, if you don't have any full Revit seats you are pretty stupid as Revit LT is missing some fundamental things like Worksharing, Massing and Conceptual Design and a few other mission critical functionalities. The only staff using Revit LT in my organisation are senior management. Everyone else has full Revit period.

Good morning everyone

To start, the Communication Failure will occur if you attempt to launch the installation from the Revit_LT_2017_G1_Win_64bit_wi_en-US_Setup.exe file. Instead, launch the installation from the Revit_LT_2017_G1_Win_64bit_wi_en-US_Setup_webinstall.exe.

Also, if the Revit Content Libraries have already been successfully installed, the best solution is to uninstall it using the traditional Add/Remove Programs functionality and then reinstall from the main Revit installer. This is where you'll need to verify that the contents of the Revit_2017_MasterXML.zip are extract to the local contents folder. During the reinstall, expand the Revit Content Libraries product entry and verify that the list of content packs has been populated. If not, the installation is not configured properly and your content will not be installed.

And finally, I would need some additional information about the scenario where content was installed but is not accessible. When you say that content was installed, I'm assuming you mean the libraries and templates were created under the C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 2017 folder. If so, it sounds like you are having problems loading these families and templates in a Revit 2017 session. If you could provide more details on how your going about this process, it should help our troubleshooting efforts.

Hello everyone,

I stumbled upon the same issues in this thread. For me the final solution was, in the install menu, configure all the paths of the content libraries to a custom local destination folder. After installation direct Revit there through the options > file location menu. Seems to me an issue with Parallels and the installation of the libraries.

Hope this helps someone.
