Revit Linked CAD coordinates

We recently transferred our model to a new template and along the way one of our linked CAD models went missing, we are now attempting to re add it to our new model.

The CAD is linked to our original model using shared coordinates, and we are attempting to link the same cad into our new model using shared coordinates.

So we have the exact same project base point location in our new model as on our original model. however when we try link the CAD via shared coordinates it does not recognize any shared coordinates. we tried linking via project base point and the cad file falls way off where it should be! surely if the 2 project base point coordinates are the same, the cad should fall to the same location, no?

Maybe someone can give you a better answer, but I long ago gave up trying to get DWGs to load into the correct place.

My solution was to insert a DWG using "Manual - Centre-centre" and align using Gridlines as references.

A common reason for CAD files not behaving is an annoying habit (mostly by Architects) of using Acad Coordinates to replicate absolute Longitude/Latitude/Orientation. This is a nightmare for several reasons, unless your project happens to be on the equator at the Greenwich Meridian.

Link the CAD center to center, select it, click Shared Site and Move instance to, and pick the Shared coordinates (for DWG it may just be Internal).

Project Base Point has nothing to do with Shared Coordinates. Shared Coordinates use the Survey Point/Origin.  

So, are the Survey Point Coordinates between the new and old Project identical?  Is the CAD using a Shared Site name that is different from "Default".  Open CAD and check under UCSManage for the Revit Site Name.   Move it to that Site Name in Revit via Shared Site dialog box.
