How do I change the hatch on a modeled ceiling from straight lines to dash?

Sorry, you answer is incorrect, it is possible and very easy to do... there is a screencast on this thread illustrating how to do it.

I respectfully disagree with the "general practice" response since the general practice has been to show demolition patterns as dashed and was always done this way in AutoCAD, it is Autodesk's refusal to create this option in Revit that has led us to all kinds of silly workarounds or leaving the lines solid because the software is not allowing us to do it right.

It is very glib for Autodesk staff to say that this is "general practice."

That screencast is only for changing the ceiling surface pattern to dashed, not for demolition though.

It's not that I disagree with the above so please don't take offense, but tbh 'general practise' is working with the software that is in front of you. True, some things might not be ideal but silly workarounds in that sense are general practise. But I think my earlier answer (#12) covers some workarounds to that end. Assuming you generally demolish more then just ceilings (of this type), the ceiling type for demolition with the dashed demolision ceiling option I still think is the way to go. You could use design options ie. for those demo plans to switch out the type. Another option might be to be to physically model it as floor parts ie., or leave it as is... as mentioned...

Complicated workarounds like this still give a lot of potential users away and are a "necessary evil" not a "general practice."  I have been a Revit user for over 10 years and have been teaching for at least 10, both in a University setting and as part of corporate training.  Autodesk has improved a lot of functionality over time and should build in an easier way to handle things like this.  I never said it cannot be done, but things like this are the main reason why a lot of "old-timers" hold fast to AutoCAD and are afraid of using Revit or deem it "too complicated for the little projects we do." I'm a big Revit advocate but despair when I have to comfort crying users (this is not an overstatement) who just want to change a linetype and have no idea what to do.

This worked perfectly, thank you!

Thank for the PAT files.  I decide to skip the step of adding additional ceiling types and chose to Paint the demo material(s) to the ceilings instead.  While I do wish VG/VT filters could do model patterns, this worked well for what we need.

For those wondering about scheduling ceiling demo area, you can use a Material Takeoff schedule rather than a Schedule/Quantities one.

Here are a bunch of demo versions of differing ACT patterns I have made over the years.

We just simply make demo versions of the ceilings that are demoed as we never do existing plans so we don't see the ceilings in a view before they get demoed.
