Revit for Facilities Management

Hello,

I work for a very big department of education system. We are starting to use Revit for facilities management. what is what kind of benefits of using Revit for facilities management? and also, what kinds of reports could be beneficial for a facilities management aspect.

I'm curious how you decided to use Revit? This is a significant purchase (license plus training and hardware). Are you also designing? 

What exactly do you want to do? Facilities management is a broad term. Keep track of maintenance, determine upgrade strategies? Do you use other FM software in addition? I know a bit from my employer's FM side and can't imagine them using Revit for many reasons. It isn't really made for that and way to expensive (license, staff, hardware) to be used where a dedicated FM software would be more suitable. I'm sure someone smart can hack it and use for FM, but it will be a big work around for all users.

The benefits of using Revit, depend on how you use it. 

The #1 thing is that it's easy to connect Revit to your IWMS/CMMS and have spatial data, etc imported in without needing to polyline like you do with AutoCAD files.

If all of your consultants are using models and doing collaborative design and clash detection, that's a big benefit. ... however, I've found many resistant to share, or some teams have the skills to do this and others do not.
