Revit Detail Items Library - Inconsistencies accross Imperial and Metric

The out of the box Detail Item families are inconsistent across the Metric and Imperial library.

Through the years, I've noticed families missing in the metric folder and a few missing in the Imperial folder. For this reason, I've always relied on the imperial library since it seems to be the original library with items mostly missing from the Metric library. For the detail items, they are some missing in both folders.

I feel like Autodesk needs to do an audit on their own material, this reeks of amateurishness. I know we're not supposed to rely on the Out of the box families, but if Autodesk is going to provide these to the users, they should do a proper job and keep content consistent.

Yep: mine is bigger. 

Imperial Library = 187 MB. Metric Library =172 MB.

I've noticed that content was missing from the Metric library for many years now. I tend to just use the metric thinking they have a "perfect" imperial library and they are just a bit lazy to hep Canadians and the rest of the world. Finding that they are missing material in both libraries is a bit infuriating. Like, all libraries are incomplete? Arghhhhh!

I understand that its not easy to make everything convenient for everyone, especially when standards differ throughout the World.... I assume you compared US Metric to US Imperial? @barthbradley, wanna ask you something just out of curiosity. Are there some people from US who use metric system or that's not the case?

The Canadian Metric library is even worse, so I do not use it. It has been neglected, so I just use the American Metric and Imperial.

My understanding what that all libraries except USMetric and USImperial had been neglected. I guess I can understand that Autodesk is simply giving second hand lip service to countries outside the US. Now I know that all libraries have been neglected, even USImperial. Sad.

There s no way that people from all over the World would come together and speak about their own standards to complete the ultimate BIM library. So, i think that ADesk is doing what can be done. Sometimes the question is do standards exist or to what level...

But even if it could be done, just think about the required effort.

Metric = MasterFormat 95

Imperial = MasterFormat 2016

The other way around? I would just expect consistency and clarity. if you are providing us with something, don't do half the job!

My realistic goals was that US Imperial and US Metric would be up to date. I'm used to them not having a good Canada Metric library, so I avoid it. I also tell people that US Imperial is the one library to look at since the others are lackluster. But now, it seems hey are all lackluster... Mostly, it would be very hard to figure out what is truly missing from all these libraries, which hurts my logical brain very much, bahaha.

Just put yourself in their shoes. Lets say you re making the program, the library and then on top of that, you have to make an Imperial library- its in some grows measurement system that complicates math for no reason + you don't know all about the US standards. You wouldn't pay atention to all the details and its natural. Maybe your Imperial Library would be even worse compared to the Metric Library Autodesk provided.

It's an American company and construction equipment often uses the imperial measurements in the US (And Canada as a result), so they should be more familiar with Imperial.

I know that Canadian Metric is missing a LOT, this is actually the first time I see missing US Metric content, so I was surprised.

Seems like Autodesk needs a BIM Manager!

After digging in here all day I noticed that some of the families in US Imerial and US Metric are simply in different folders.

For example,

US Metric places the light fixtures in Div 26 - Electrical

US Imperial places them in Div 16 - Electrical

US Metric places the Sanitary Waste and Vent Piping in Div 15 - Mechanical

US Imperial places them in Div 22 - Plumbing

However, many of the items are simply missing from the US Metric category.

It's hard to tell when Autodesk stopped working on detail families, when they updated what. The only clear thing is that this is a half-baked library.
