Can the option sets defined in Design Options be exported and imported between Revit projects?

Thank you,

Cathy

If you link one Revit files into another then you can modify the Visibility graphics of the linked file Design Options tab and switch the design option you want to display.

Hope this helps.  Good Luck

I was hoping I could use the defined "Project 1" options in "Project 2".  Working with two different projects; so there would be no other justification to link them.

Thanks,

To be clear as it sounds confusing what you are trying to do.

You have two separate projects that are completely different or somewhat similar?

You have been working on two schemes of the same project with different design options?

is it just walls?

You can Save as project 1 and accept the design option you prefer then copy paste the elements it into project 2 (if possible) and create a new design option with the new elements

I hope what I suggest may be of help.

I work with builders who use the same set of options for multiple projects. The geometry may vary from project to project, but the option data would be the same.  I.e. each house has the following Garage Set:Standard Garage/3-Car Garage/Side Load Garage.  So its primarily the option data from the Design Options Interface that I would like to reuse for each project.

Short of exploring whether I could just set them up in the template; I was searching for ways to import that data (just option list) from one finished project into a new project.  It would save me alot of time having to re-enter the data each time I start a new project.

The latter may be my final solution; if the data cannot be saved in a .rte file, i would just reuse an existing option project file as a starter for a new project.

Thank you for your suggestions.

Interesting various ways you can go about it:

1. Do it in Dynamo

2. Create 2d components or projects with reference planes as the defining wall.  This way you have a set of "LEGO" like pieces.  I worked on a hospital projects where all the typical rooms where done that way  and linked into the main model (something crazy like 52models).

3. There are some revit apps that let you create spreadships then link them into the project ... I used something from CTC when I did a large university project with lots of equipments time saver.

I've attached a family of a BF washroom I was working on.

I didn't think about Dynamo..that may be a potential solution!

Thank you for your suggestions; I will do some additional testing on the best approach to solve the problem.

To be clear, you are not talking about moving model elements from one project to another, right? You're talking about the layout/heirarchy/naming of the options, and perhaps views already pre-setup as appropriate, right?

Then I humbly submit that your best choice is to set up a template file.

Correct; I am referring to the full list of option sets defined in the Design Option list.

I believe a template file is my only option.

Thanks
