Revit Components

Hi, I'm new to Revit. Could anyone advise. I work on Healthcare Projects - would it be a case of accessing all specific components to be used in drawings, from the suppliers and is this a case of building up your library of Revit Components? or is there a library of Healthcare Components that users can access online. There will be a mix of both.

You want vendors' specific equipment as much as you can because you job is to coordinate equipment in architectural spaces and provide structural support and utility connection to them, not design the equipment themselves.

For some generic stuff such as shelving, casework, furniture... you can create your own content to use in the space planing, preliminary design then replace them with specific models layer on.

Manufacturer-specific products? A good resource is BIMObject. Most Manufacturers post their Revit Content there - if they offer content at all.  If not, and you need specifications to produce your own Model Family, go the the Manufacturer's Website and gather those specs through whatever data sheets they have.  Also, check to see if they offer CAD content.  If they do, download and insert that CAD Content into a Revit Family Template and then use the CAD as a reference to create a Revit Model from it. You could even keep the Model simple (a cube for instance) and include their CAD in the Family. It will carry over to the Project.

P.S. Make sure to populate those Identity Data Parameters in the Family.  That's more "I" in your "BIM" Model.

Lastly, I find most everything I need through Google. Keep in mind also that you can import other formats into Revit. Sketchup is one.  Don't overlook those files.  Sketchup Warehouse it a good place to look as well.

Seps2BIM has a long list of VA Hospital Revit families. They are not the best but they are not ridiculous either. I believe they are imperial units if that makes a difference.

There is also the National BIM Library which I believe is UK and uses metric.

If you will be doing a lot of healthcare projects, creating your own working library will pay dividends.
