Revit cant handle our largest sheet size

Hello,

I am currently in the process of troubleshooting an issue we have encoutered in Revit with printing to PDF.

If i try to print a sheet with (A0+++++++) Revit seems to be unable to handle the filesize. I can select the size in the printer dialog but when i press preview or print I get part of the sheet on an A3 sized sheet.

I have checked the printer settings, printerserver etc. and i am convinced this is a Revit issue and and not something with my printerdrivers or anything.

Can someone here create a sheet size and try to plot it in Revit?

The width is 84,1 cm, height is 356,7 cm.

I wonder if anyone here can recreate this issue.

Use Export to PDF.

Thanks, but i am trying to troubleshoot something here, not use another way to print.

Our printing gets done automatically via Dynamo which uses the print function. Im just wondering if anyone can recreate this issue in revit.

Might be worth trying @ToanDN 's suggestion. If Revit can do that, it would suggest that the issue isn't with Revit.

Were able to successfully print to this large sheet size using Revit previously? Are you trialing a new process? It's hard to know if it's a Revit issue or a printer issue.

Revit can export to that size without any problem.  Maybe you need to look at the limitation of your PDF printer, find a new one, or revise your Dynamo script to work with the native PDF export.

PDF File is attached.

did another test here. i find the limit of size to be around 3250mm. over that, it doesnt work.

Are you talking about printing to PDF, or exporting a PDF.

I am specifically talking about using the printer dialog to create a PDF, and/or printing to our largest printer. The sheet size fails to load correctly in the printer dialog.

We were able to print to pdf a year ago, the last time we needed this enormous papersize.

That's why i'm looking for other users if they are able to print/preview a sheet with these specific dimensions, I am relatively certain this has something to do with Revit, not our printers.

I am able to 'print' a PDF this size in my PDF programs without issues, its specifically in Revit where the dimensions fail.

This is the the screen when i press the preview button:

The file prints with the proper dimensions outside of Revit, Revit converts it to what looks like an A3 sheet.

Interesting!
Thank you for testing it!

If you insist on NOT using the Revit PDF function, you should try a more professional PDF software, like Bluebeam.

But really, why use a 3rd party printer when Revit has PDF function built in for free and it works?

Revit Version: R2026.4
Hardware: i9 14900K, 64GB, Nvidia RTX 2000 Ada 16GB
Add-ins: ElumTools; Ripple-HVAC; ElectroBIM; Qbitec

This has nothing to do with the PDF software and everything to do with a limitation in Revit. The printer dialog just seems unable to handle a sheet with a width of +3500 mm. Even our plotter produces the same error in preview mode.

Are you saying you are able to get a preview window with a sheet with the dimensions i showed in my previous messages (With the PRINT function, not the PDF Export function)? This is not exclusive to creating PDF files, printing to our large plotter directly from Revit also fails with this particular sheet size.

The built in function to export to PDF isnt available in all Revit versions we use.

No issue printing to PDF using Adobe PDF either.

YOU are using a 3rd party PDF printer software and it doesn't work for you. WE use the Revit PDF export feature, and it works. Draw your own conclusions which software to blame.

You also could use a professional PDF printer, not a free one. The one you use may have limitations. but again, Revit already has a PDF function built in, so any 3rd party PDF printer seems obsolete, IMHO.

Did you even try the Revit PDF export function and see if that works?

Again, i am asking SPECIFICALLY about the print function in Revit. Where in my entire post have I ever asked if there is an alternative to the print dialog?

I don't want to know about the export to PDF function, it's not what this post is about. Besides, you fail to read what I mentioned earlier. This is not exclusive to our PDF printer. Our actual printer produces the same error inside of Revit, outside of Revit i can print this form just fine with the PDF printer aswell as the actual printer.

Revit also doesn't have a built in PDF exporter for versions earlier than 2022 as far as I know.

Even the printer the guy above you showed doesnt work in Revit 2020.

Did you even read the entire chain before commenting this nonsense?

EDIT:

Clearly some here seem to insist on handing out the 'Just use pdf export' argument as if that's of any help, as i said before our actual printer cant even print this size from Revit. This is like asking 'My car doesnt drive and i would like to troubleshoot why" and then you respond with "Just take the bike to work."

In Revit 2020, Whatever printer you use, the preview window in the printer dialog will show a A3 form instead of the form required. Revit does not pick up the dimensions properly. This is irrelevant to whatever printer i am using. Our printers are able to handle the sheet size just fine outside of Revit, and even if that was not the case, the preview window in Revit should give the correct size, which it doesnt.

For the nth time, we are telling you to try the native PDF exporter just to see if the problem is really with Revit or if it is something else. Don't come asking for help troubleshooting if you're just going to say no when suggestions are brought to you.

Can you point me to where the native PDF exporter is in Revit 2020?
