Revit and Windows 10

Will revit 2016 be one day compatible with windows 10 ? Or do we have to wait for revit 2017 ?

It will but usually that requires at least two cycles before any version of windows gets somewhat stabe. Hence, the best option (which most firms in all industries go for) not to updrade to the latest windows version till at least its second year past the SP1 (not past the release date)

All software developers suffer the same with Microsoft Windows OS...and thats one of the things which makes MacOS more reliable

We run Revit 2016 in Windows 10 with no problems. What are you running into?

He didn't say he is having a problem lol he said when will it be compatible ie: when will Autodesk admit to it and extend their support officially to cover windows 10 ..

Not going through the details of the issue and the reason of such behavior on windows 10...the Facts are summerized as such:

1. All Autodesk running on systems upgraded from Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 to Windows 10 run perfectly fine with the exeption of few add-ins and extensions
2. NEW Systems running Windows 10 Pro are less problematic when it comes to installation of Autodesk products
3. New Systems running Windows 10 Home are facing problems running a proper download and install and it raresly works out from the second attemp

And if whoever says there is no problem and all is fine...Please do excuse me, but with all due respect that someone has no idea what he/she is taking about

When I see "compatible" I think of it as "Is Revit 2016 capable of being installed with minimal Problems" in Windows 10.

Let's be honest, I can install Revit 2016 in Windows 7 and still have problems... we will never be able to have a "perfect" install with any version on any operating system.

So, with my interpretation of compatible, I should clarify...

"I was able to install Revit 2016 on Windows 10, and I run it with minimal problems".

It is compatiable with windows 10.  Its not compatiable with Mac OS.

My question was maybe a bit naive but simple, when you launch the setup.exe of windows 10 does it work ? So apparently yes, and that's fantastic news.

I was wondering this because when you go on the website, it says the OS needs to be W7, W8 or W8.1

@ZA_Sean Inaccurate statement...

Compatibility is something which is not asserted or defined by the user. It is something certified and assured by the developer when the later extend its support to cover that area/product

@Keith_Wilkinson if you sense arrogance in technical facts yes technical facts are sometimes mistaken for that

@jsanders if you require Autodesk support you need Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 irrespective where u install it on Mac Bootcamp or PC.

@jsanders - Yes it will work with Windows 10 but Autodesk do not currently 'officially' support it so if it all goes wrong you can't blame them...  😉

This article highlights the problem that majority of users face when installing on Windows 10... usually a .NET framework issue, proving that Autodesk provides a path to install on Windows 10, i.e. compatibilty.

You need to modify the setup.ini file a bit to disable to .NET framework checking for each piece of software that you install.

Once everything is installed, I went back to the setup install directory, 3rdParty\x64\VCRedist and install all those in there.

Until Autodesk confirms that statement and extends its support to cover licenses installed on Windows 10 ... The product is deemed not fully comparable irrespective if it runs fully or partially with or without problems. You may refer this statement to Autodesk Support and ask them to confirm or deny.

As for your statements...it is understandable since you are not held accountable for what you post here. Hence, you may say anything.

Autodesk issued that Troubleshooting guide... it's obvious they are admitting a known issue... why would that mean that it is not confirmed??

Support is does not cover uncertified compatible software... Again refer to the reply above and request Autodesk to confirm or deny. When they say it is finally certified as compatible with Windows 10 do inform us to request official support from Autodesk instead users

No-one asked about support.  The question from the OP was whether or not 2016 is compatible with Windows 10.

Let's just issue a statement to make him happy.

REVIT 2016 CAN BE INSTALLED AND RUNS WITH MINIMAL PROBLEMS ON WINDOWS 10, AND I'VE BEEN WORKING WITH THIS SETUP SINCE 2016 WAS RELEASED ALMOST A YEAR AGO, but it is not "compatible" as defined by RDAOU.

@ZA_Sean indeed thats is a troubleshooting attempt (not manual) and it is a statement of incompatibility AND YES your last statement is very accurate  (respect)

@Keith_Wilkinson refer to the articles @ZA_Sean for the list of Autodesk products confirmed compatible with Windows 10...This topic has taken more than it deserves. If your intent is to be really helpful you should be helping other users with real Revit issues instead of such arguements that has no bases.
