Revit and laser scanners

Good morning,

I would like to ask some questions, I hope someone can help me:

  • How you can import and manage data from a laser scanner in Revit?
  • Is it better as a point cloud or mesh?
  • What are the recommended formats?
  • Are there any limits or specific plug-in?

Thank you very much!

Best regards,

There are actually no limitations as such, what format do you have of laser scan?

Thank you Sureshchotrani.

I'm using a Leica scanner, whose format is *.ptx
Do you know if I can import it into Revit? Are there any limitations (number of points, etc)?

Thank you very much!

You can open .ptx files in ReCap, then in ReCap save it as .pcg, which you can insert in Revit.

Please, where can I find all the formats currently available for point cloud importing into Revit (see the second picture of your 05-18-2015 answer)?. In parallel, could we work there with triangle meshes, and, again, what formats?.

Andrea,

Revit's ability to handle large-scale meshes is nowhere near as efficient as what we do with Point Clouds, so we'd strongly recommend the ReCap route.
