Revit and A360 questions

Hi,

I was wondering if the A360 Collaboration is a mandatory installation/use for Revit 2017?  If so, are there options that we can pursue that do not involve requirement of a cloud based service?

Also if we decided at a later time to go from standalone to a server application, is there any documentation that helps with migration etc?

Thanks!

The Collaboration for Revit components are installed with Revit 2017. You are not able to choose if they are installed or not. You are not however required to use them. You can still use Revit in a "normal" worksharing environment (a single local server, LAN). You can also install Revit Server (included with Revit) if you want to setup a worksharing environment across multiple offices (WAN). You can also select to use Collaboration for Revit (worksharing in the cloud).

Hi loboarch,

Thank you for the answer, just a couple followup ones.  First, Apologies for these questions but we need to make sure that nothing goes out that we cannot control from our environment.  Since we don't have a choice on installation, does the Collaboration run separately as a service on the desktop (So we can set it to disabled) or is it part of the framework/application files that run when you launch Rivit 2017?

Thanks again!

It is part of the framework. Basically what happens is when you click "collaborate" you are presented with a dialog asking you "how" you want to collaborate.

  • Collaborate Within Your Network
  • Collaborate using A360

If you choose the latter you have to log in to A360 set up a project, etc... You would need to go through a number of steps to get it going it would be pretty hard to "accidentally" set a project up like that.
