Revit 25 - jumping when scrolling & expanding tabs in project browser

My company just upgraded our template to revit 2025 (R25) and are encouraging people to use R25 for new projects. I have been using R25 for my project for months now and I have to say I am very annoyed with some of these features that I have read are suppose to provide "efficiency".

PLEASEEEEE provide a toggle to turn on/off the jumping feature in the project browser when you scroll. This is by far so annoying. I am spending more time trying to find my view because I scroll down and then it jumps, then scroll up, and it jumps.

The other very obnoxious feature is when I add a new view onto a sheet, the tab for the sheet expands and expands to show all the views on that sheet. When you have multiple people working in a project and adding views constantly, these tabs open very quickly. Between the tabs opening and the jump scrolling this is by far EFFICIENT!!!!

There needs to be a toggle for both these features otherwise I will be telling my company to stay in R23 until there is a solution as I know I will be receiving many questions and feedback from frustrated/annoyed people on these features.  For further context, we went from R23 to R25.

This is exactly what is happening! I will try to upload a video as well but when you add a view onto a sheet, the sheet tab expands to show all the views on that sheet which makes the jumping even worse. I have been using 25. My company has not rolled out 26 yet.

If this is a problem that is happening in 24 & 25, is this something that would get corrected in these version and also in 26?

I was wondering why all my sheets were expanded to show all the views. Seems this is also happening when you drop in a schedule. Then you have to click the minus button to compact everything again on every sheet. How tedious.

Original poster brought this up almost exactly a year ago, so I'm not holding my breath on a solution in 2026.

I am the original poster! My company merged and therefore since my email and sign in to autodesk changed, my name on here changed 😞

Thanks all. Just to clarify a few things:

  1. The "expanding sheet contents" when you dragging over a sheet in the project browser was a change with the component; that is a specific behavioral change I have filed a request with the team for.
  2. This "fast scrolling" issue, from the video above, is the other issue I wanted to see if anyone can reproduce the same in Revit 2026.1. There were changes with the project browser in Revit 2026 and additional improvements in 2026.1, so I wanted to see if it is still reproducible.

Ryan,

I'm installing 2026 right now and I will let you know if I can reproduce the issue.

Appreciate that! If you still can in 2026.1 then we know it is something else, and I can work to get reproducible steps for the team to debug further.

Here is the result from 2026. It is still happening, but not quite the same. It's smoother, more of a slide than a jump, and the threshold for how quickly I need to scroll for it to happen is higher. So, overall less annoying, but still present.

Thank you for the video; are you running Windows 10 or Windows 11? I have not been able to reproduce with Windows 10, I can try some larger models with Windows 11.

One test that might be interesting on your workstation; if you press and continue to hold the middle scroll wheel button over the project browser it activates the arrow cursor and you can move either up\down to automatically scroll. It should scroll faster as you move towards the top\bottom of the Revit window. Do you ever experience the jump in this scroll mode, or is it always consistently smooth in either direction?

One thought is this could be some combination of Windows settings with scrolling speed, mouse lines to scroll, etc. and how Revit interprets the distance of each scroll to the project browser.

Windows 11 pro (if that matters)

Middle click scroll is smooth.

I went into my mouse settings and changed the "lines to scroll at a time" setting, with some interesting results. The default seems to be 3. When I change to 1, the issue is gone, the downside being that the scrolling is incredibly slow across every application on my computer. At 2, the issue is barely noticeable. At 4 the issue also seems to be gone, but the scroll is obviously faster than I'm used to now. It seems like the issue only happens at the windows default of 3, which is unfortunate because that's probably where most users are comfortable with the scroll speed.

Thank you for bringing to our attention the concern regarding the auto-expand behavior. We are considering providing an option to turn off the auto-expand when dragging from views to sheet. However, we would also like to understand your needs better regarding the drag-and-drop action between sheets:

If the auto-expand feature is disabled, what is your expectation when dragging and dropping an item from one sheet node to another? Should the target sheet node automatically expand or remain collapsed?

Thank you! if this gets disabled, I would expect the sheet to not expand and remain close. Im using revit 23 and do not have this problem so I would expect it to follow the same ways.

That is pretty odd, never come across that. Could be localized issue. Never had anyone else reporting this ?
