REVIT 2026 Won't export to IFC?

Hello, lately I've been having some issues exporting a project to IFC format. I have both versions 2026 and 2024 downloaded, and have recently switched to 2026. When I exported IFC's from the 2024 version, I had 0 problems doing so, but now, the latest version is giving me issues. It shows this message, (image)

I have no idea what the message might refer to, and since I cannot save the project in an earlier version like you can do in AutoCAD, I'm completely at a loss.

What can I do?

Looks like a Windows issue no? Like you try to overwrite the file filename.ifc but that file already exists and you don't have write permissions for that file / directory. I'd try to save to a different directory.

I am also having this issue. Cant get it to work at all.  All permissions etc are fine.

EDIT: I tried saving the IFC to the desktop and that worked. I was originally trying to save to a mapped network drive and that was failing with the above error. I know the permissions are correct in windows as i am able to open and edit all files within the folder i was trying to export the ifc to.

Does your Export IFC window show a version number somewhere. If it does not, your exporter is the out of the box one. Try updating it to the latest version.

Hello @katsanosengineer, if you are saving on a network drive, could you please check if you can save IFC files to the local drive, for example, to C:\Autodesk?

Hi! That doesn’t fully solve the issue. We also need to be able to create IFC over the network, as was possible in previous Revit versions.

I'm experiencing a conflict between the built-in (pre-installed) IFC exporter and the recommended IFC exporter plugin in Revit 2026.

It is possible to simply disable the recommended IFC exporter through this RevitAddInsManager to resolve the overlap.

C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Revit 2026\AddInsManager\RevitAddInsManager.exe

Hi there,
the issue was resolved after disabling one of the BIM IFC Importer plugins.
It appears that the two IFC importers were conflicting with each other, which caused the export error

Hello,

we have the same issue but these Plugins are not shown in the revit add-ins manager. Any suggestions?
