Revit 2026 won't even initialize when i try to open it

I had downloaded Revit 2026 about two weeks ago and everything was perfectly fine. Then I go to open it this morning and it simply just does not open. I have tried double clicking it, right mouse click then "open", even open an existing file view double clicking or right clicking. Additionally, the task manager doesn't even show the app running even for a split-second. Revit 2024 does indeed work but i recently moved all of my projects to 2026. I have clean uninstalled and reinstalled everything in addition to restarting my computer. I have no idea what the issue could be especially because there are no issues when installing, uninstalling, or Autodesk access.

I actually JUST resolved through Autodesk support. The amazing person who did everything they could to solve it was named David B MacDonald. he works in Boston so hopefully you can get in contact with him.

We tried literally everything and go lucky with a solution but everyone trying to resolve the issue was both shocked and confused as there should have been no issues whatsoever. Hopefully you can get it resolved.

Hi @michael88TDQ, it's great to hear you have solved the issue. Would you please share a solution with the community so others who have the same issue could also resolve their issue too. Thank you.

Hey @mari.shimode, I unfortunately am super unqualified to even understand the hoops we had to jump through to solve the issue. I will try my best anyway though. First, I think its important to note what DID NOT work, so that nobody is wasting their time: Clean uninstall/reinstall, changing folder/file names (originally the "event viewer" showed this file as being a problem: \MSVCP140.dll, but anything we did to the file did not remedy the problem), rebooting the system (restarting the PC), using whatever this thing does: https://www.majorgeeks.com/mg/getmirror/visual_c_runtime_installer,1.html (the Autodesk helper said this usually solves most problems as it is an issue with code or C+).

There may have been one or two other things we tried but I cannot recall. The last thing that we did that I think solved the issue was using the "Autodesk license manager", go through their troubleshooting steps as well as making sure all of your information was correct, and then a reboot of the system.

Now, at the end of the day, I do not know for sure what the issue is, or how it emerged, or even if the above explanation is the solution. The most perplexing thing is that Revit 2024 still ran perfectly fine with the same license, user information, and files.

Hi @michael88TDQ, thank you for sharing what didn't work as well! It is very helpful to the community. I've marked your latest reply as an accepted solution so other community members can look at what you have tried as a reference. I'm also writing links to a support page about the license manager and also to the support below just in case the community needs technical help from Autodesk.

Please visit the Autodesk Community again if you have any other questions in the future.

We are having widespread issues with people being unable to open Revit 2026. I think it might stem from a windows update last week. We were able to use Revit 2026 prior to last Thursday (8/21). Over the weekend I did a bunch of different things to try to get access to 2026 again.  I tried a clean uninstall and reinstall of Revit.  That did not fix the issue.  Here is what finally worked for me and all the users in our office that have had issues.  Go to Add/Remove programs and search "visual". Select the three dots next to each of the Microsoft visual c++ redistributable items and select modify and then Repair. Repeated for all Microsoft visual c++ redistributable items Restarted computer and then Revit 2026 will open.

Thank you! We've been having this issue for the past week, our IT folks have spent so much time trying to troubleshoot the issue. Repairing the c++ apps has solved the problem for at least one of our employees so far (still working through them on other machines).

I tried several of the solution discussed here & none of them worked. What did work for me was this:

Disable Full Screen Optimization: - Right-click the Revit icon and select Properties. - Go to the Compatibility tab. - Check the box for Disable fullscreen optimizations. - Click OK and then reopen Revit.

This also worked for another person at the office I work at who hadn't already tried all of the other things that I did.
