Revit 2024 direct link to Twinmotion problem.

HI,

I have just upgraded from Revit LT to the full version and have now installed Revit 2024 as well as the latest version of Twinmotion for revit, but when I try to use the open in twinmotion option it says twinmotion is not installed. I have tried re-installing Twinmotion and tried the workaround on the known issues with twinmotion page, but with no success.

I have also tried exporting a datasmith file to import to twinmotion, but each time the file only contains folder and lights, but no actual meshes, I have tried various different model files and import settings, but to no avail.

I tried downloading a different direct link plugin from the twinmotion site, but they don't have one for revit 2024 yet. As I one of the reasons I upgraded to the full version of revit was to have an easier visualisation workflow, this is a bit of a problem, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Andy

Since TM is a built-in feature, i suppose there won't be a plugin. As for the software itself, I already had TM 2023 installed and it opened up fine through Revit 24. Everything installed on the system SSD without custom configs.

hello

Twinmotion doesn't support default materials of Revit 2024?
I checked on several files, but only the textures that I personally assign are transferred to Twinmotion

Does anyone have a similar problem?

Hi Andy,

I would confirm that the expected version of Twinmotion is installed on the workstation. Using Twinmotion for Revit as an example:

  • Revit 2023.1 Open in Twinmotion will check for Twinmotion for Revit 2022.2
  • Revit 2024 Open in Twinmotion will check for Twinmotion for Revit 2023.1

Thanks Ryan,

That would make sense, when I downloaded it only the link for Twinmotion 2022.2.3 Revit Installer was available , 2023.1 is now there, so will install and try that. Thanks.

I have installed Revit 2024 and Twinmotion 2023.1, but when I click the open in Twinmotion button, nothing happens. It simply doesn't work. The same was happening with Revit 2023 and Twinmotion 2022.2.3. Is just not working.

I had to uninstall and reinstall both, Revit and Twinmotion. It's working now. However the export settings windows is not working.

I had the same problem intermittently, but Twinmotion just released an update. I've only opened it once or twice since but haven't had an issue. Not sure if the update fixed it or not, but could have.

I ran into this same issue. For me the problem was resolved when I force quit all instances of Revit Running in my task manager. After I did this I was again able to open twinmotion from Revit, it also repaired a broken link I was unable to fix.

I install the Update TM 2023.1.1 for Revit and I lost my connection too.
Any hints to solve the problem?

Hello all - thank you for the details. I wanted to provide some additional information for these posts, and collect some additional details if further debugging is required.

First, in general, there are a few known issues on this page - Known Issues for Twinmotion and Revit 2024 Interoperability.

For example, one I want to rule out, is if Twinmotion was installed by another user or part of an image, you will need to manually launch Twinmotion once. This will properly set the registry value that Revit checks for when doing the Open in Twinmotion command:

1. Make sure there are no Revit.exe processes running.
2. Manually launch Twinmotion 2022.2 or Twinmotion 2023.1 once.
3. Close Twinmotion.
4. Launch Revit 2023.1 \ 2024. Create a new model. Save it, close it, re-open the same model.
5. Attempt the Open in Twinmotion command. Does it launch Twinmotion?

There are some limitations with direct link connections, the Revit file name, and other workflows. Also, in order to use Twinmotion workflows a graphics card is required; Revit will do some checks to make sure this is in-place. There is messaging in the Revit journal file if the commands cannot initiate because of a missing card or other environment setting (refer to the same known issues page).

In addition, for Revit 2024, there are some Revit.ini and Windows Environment Variables that can be added if you wish to skip this display adapter check, for example. Please refer to this page - About Visualization with Twinmotion.

Please confirm the items from the known issues page, and if you are still experiencing issues please attach a Revit journal file to this thread, along with additional details, and I can assist \ confirm further.

Thank you for taking the time to reach out!

Thank you for the update. Just confirming, you have checked the items from my previous post

Also, what is the exact failure you are seeing when you attempt to use Twinmotion 2023.1 with Revit 2024?

If you could provide and attach the Revit journal file from the Revit session right after this occurs, it would be very helpful for additional debugging.

Thank you,

If possible, can you please attach the Revit journal file from this session. This will help us better confirm the error condition.

Also, does closing\re-opening Revit, opening the model, and the same 3D view > Open in Twinmotion work as expected or have the same issue?

Thanks.

the all twinmotion related tools are not working at all
restarting revit, twinmotion, or the system still does nothing
how to get the revit journal file from session?
