Revit 2023 generates graphics for closed 3D views on save every time

Hi,

Over the weekend we upgraded our project from Revit '22 to Revit '23 using the BIM 360 upgrade feature.

All went well there, but now when I save my model (just a control+s, not a sync) it is taking an age. Revit is now (re?)generating graphics for two 3D views on every save. These 3D views are NOT opened. These 3D views are very busy so it is consuming a lot of time. This weirdly also happens if I am in a separate family .rfa file, save that, and it will still generate the graphics for those 3D views even though I am in a completely different file.

I renamed the views and no luck. I tried to delete and re-create the views, but Revit still finds them. If I delete one then it will only generate one view. So I guess a "fix" is to delete them, but ideally I need these views.

I am using Revit 2023.1.1.

Thanks.

Cut and paste the camera in place to create a new view for each.

Hi, this doesn't work. I assume it is the similar as just re-creating the views from scratch which I have also tried.

Cheers

If you change the names of the views does it still happen?

I don't know of any settings that should be telling it to refresh on save.

  • Do you have any 3rd party tools like Clarity or something else that could be telling it to do this?
    • any macros loaded?

Have you tried downloading the file from BIM360, Recentralize it (open Detached from Central and Save)  and reload it back up to the project?

Hi @willjbird,

I had this happen on a 2019 BIM360 project, the culprit was Enscape addin. It would regenerate each 3D view in the model, even closed ones.

After disabling the addin it was solved, but this was some Enscape versions ago.

So maybe a Addin causing this or a combination of a Addin+BIM360...

Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone.

As @TripleM-Dev.net suggested it was an add-in I had installed. Interestingly it was an Autodesk one (https://aps.autodesk.com/data-exchange-cover-page).

Anyway, glad it's all fixed now. Thanks.

After uninstalling the data exchange add-ins for 2023 and 2024 the problem was solved. The problem exposed for me in Revit 2021.

Just to update this thread, this is still an issue in Revit 2026. We fixed it by disabling the data exchange plug-in.
