Hello everyone, I just started learning Revit 2019 and I'm struggling with some column I need to represent on my floor plans and sections.
I attached a link with the picture -> https://imgur.com/a/A0BuGDp
I need to create those L shaped and I shaped columns that can go up from foundation to first floor.
If anyone has a tutorial or some steps on how should I do it I would be very grateful.
Thanks

Start a new family and use the column family template. Note that you have two types available - Column and structural column. These react differently in the project, but for your purposes you will probably use the Column template.
If the columns are the same dimensions, then create an extrusion in a plan view for the desired shape. Otherwise, add parameters for the dimensions. In an elevation view, stretch and lock the column to the upper reference line. Load tihs into your project and place the columns.
After placing the column in the plan do I have to trim the walls? or just put them over the walls (inside them)?
Will I be able to cutomize it's height?
The structural columns will trim the walls, but you have to cut the walls for the architectural column.
The column heights will be adjustable
I don't think I'm doing something wrong, when I try to set the top level to the last level it won't extend, also I can't modify it's height manually
Did you lock it to the Upper Reference Level in the family? Pull this level down to check if the column flexes with it.
Ahh forgot to lock it, thanks man, sorry but I'm very new at this.
Thanks again. now it's ok it goes up.
Hey man, I'm back xD, I can't make this column to show with a dark gray hatch. I attached some snaps.
I tried setting the material, even the hatch of the column but still not showing. If I remove the walls the column is showing properly, but the thermal protection and exterior/interior finishes are gone.
I was thinking about making the column with finish and thermal protection but I have to make it to each column that is in the plan and I want to know if there is another way to fix this without making each column individual
hello you can try this see screencast videos and see if helps. thanks
no worries, glad to help. thanks ![]()
