Revit 2019.2 files must be saved - option to discard and relinquish gone?

Has anyone run into the issue where a file can't be closed without saving?  I've run into this issue just in the last few days when I've opened a file detached from Central and gone to close it without saving but Revit won't close the file.  This has also happened when opening a "dummy" project (non-workshared) just to check a command and again Revit won't let me close the file without saving.  This could be a big issue for our firm due to the workflow for our PMs who are not proficient in Revit must always open the file detached to avoid any unintended consequences of changing the model.

Why not have those less proficient at Revit use the Revit viewer? This will eliminate any risk because they cannot save with the viewer.

Also, using "save as" on the detached model will get you out of that rut without affecting the project model.

That works to some extent for PMs to open in Viewer, although they still have to open detached if they want to move or change anything, and they can't print any of the changes.  It doesn't solve the issue from my perspective, although it is an acceptable workaround.

Yeah, you didn't mention editing or printing.

Does the viewer require opening as detached? I've never used it on a workshared project.

Yes.  Upon opening Revit Viewer a notification pops up stating the limitations of using Viewer (Viewer Notification 1).  When the file is opened detached, another notification pops up regarding worksets (Viewer Notification 2) - odd as the file is already being opened detached.
