Revit 2018 - Scaling impossible

Hey there!

Sorry for my bad english.

I have a 3d model of an urban space and I need to link it with another rvt data where a building was made. Now the model of the City has the wrong scale. I have to enlarge it with the factor 1,952 in order to have the correct proportions with the building model.
But if I select the whole model I can't use the scale button.

I've uploaded the urban space model. It would be great if someone could try to scale it with x1,952 without loosing anything.

Thanks in advance!

I saw that masses are basically .dwg entities..

I suggest:

  • to Export 3d model as CAD (DWG)
  • then , without opening in AutoCAD, create a New Conceptual Mass and import here the already created .dwg file
  • Once inserted into the Mass file , it can be scaled
  • Load it into the Project you want to...

But if I do that the whole model looses it's look and surfaces. And how do I create a new conceptual mass anyway whitout opening it in AutoCad?

I really need to scale that thing as quick as possible but it has to look the same as before and I need to be able to continue working with it. So it doesnt help me if eveything becomes ONE single mass without the surface textures. Hope you understand what I mean.

Everyone feel free to download and try it.. I will kiss the one who can manage to send me the exact same file just scaled with factor 1,952.

I tried it since days and I'm near to depression by now 😄

  • from a 3D-view in Revit export to DWG .
  • import the exported DWG into Revit [Insert tab ] [ import CAD ] , origin to origin, automatic scaling.
  • change the base level of the newly imported Symbol to the correct level (Ebene 0)
  • select the import Symbol, [Edit type] and change the scale factor to 1.952

Okay, but when I do this, the model just looks different. And also I can't explode it because it has too many elements.
So it is absolutely useless since I can't move or tweak single buldings or roads. Isn't there a way to scale it as a Revit data and NOT as DWG?

@FAIR59  The issue here is that I need this as Revit Project Data to be able to work further on it. The file should stay the exact way it is right now. But with the only difference that everything must be bigger with factor 1,952.

The moment I export it to DWG thats not the case any more and it becomes useless to me.

I have to be able to work on roads, add/remove single buildings and also the surfaces and textures have to stay intact for visualisation and rendering

It seems that there is no solution, thats really depressing because I have to rebuild everything from scratch with the correct scale which will take days 😞

I am sorry to tell you that there is no way to just scale everything with a simple tool.

1. In that file you've got some Revit Topography category elements, some Revit Floor category elements, some Revit Planting category elements and a bunch of buildings that are imported DFX files. So everything isn't "Revit data" anyway.

2. Even if everything was Revit elements, it doesn't work like that. Unlike in a basic Autocad file, a tree isn't just a dimensioned circle. It's probably a Type with certain dimension parameters set by the creater. So another Type would need to be created that's 1,952 times larger.

3. Revit works 1:1. You don't scale anything when you're modeling. This is kinda a core concept of Revit. You don't make a wall type that's one inch thick, model everything 1/5 size, and then expect to just scale it up and have your wall automatically become a 5" thick wall type. It just doesn't work like that.

@chrisplyler Yeah I know that and it was a mistake from the beginning. I just thought maybe someone knows a Workaround or something.

Anyway.. at least I am sure now that there is no other way than make it from scratch
Thanks for your help guys
