Revit 2018 Material Browser not opening

Hi,

I am using Revit 2018, Student version, single monitor.

All off a sudden, after working with it for a while, the material browser stopped opening. I tried throw editing a specific element and throw mange> material, and nothing appears to happen after clicking it.

Tried to Repair and Uninstall the Material Library and the even Reinstalled the entire software.

Thank you,

Or.

Good Morning Orvana1, This problem has appeared before in an earlier release of Revit as well. I would advise that you check out this link and make sure that all your material libraries installed correctly. https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcartic... Hope this helps! Mitch.

Thank you for the quick response.

Actually this is the post I have used and followed to reinstall the Material Library, but unfortunately it didn't solved the problem.

Sorry to hear this solution did not work.

There is a far more extensive answer to the problem found at this link:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/learn-explore/caas/simplecontent/content/why-d...

I would suggest starting with the purging of unused materials to see if that helps.

Hi Mitchell,

I purged all unused materials and families and its still not working.

I tried to open the material browser dialog on new project and it's still not working.

Then I tried saving my project as IFC format and ask a friend to open it on Revit 2016. The material browser worked on 2016, but by downgrading my model, I lost the ability to use all of Revit's advantages...

Hi Orvana1,

Again, sorry to hear that none of these solutions worked. I think you will have to escalate this to Autodesk themselves, as these are usually the solutions to this issue.

Hi,

It could be that your material browser opens but is off screen.

after clicking to open material browser hit ALT + SPACE together and then hit M key. You can now use the arrows on your keyboard to move the window left or right, if it is off screen you should be able to get it back this way.

Unfortunately I cant think of any other causes f this doesn't help.

I'm having the same problem, tried all these unsuccessful solutions, formatted the machine and am using Revit 2018.1 and Windows 10 Pro version 1703.

Hello,
I tried to do as @Anonymous posted and it did not work, but it inspired me and I did the following test, I own a Dell XPS with Nvidia GeForce GT 525M video adapter, uninstalled the Nvidia Software through the control panel and then opened Revit, same without the video driver and tested the Material Browser that worked perfectly, then Windows started downloading the update for the driver, after rebooting and already with the recognized Nvidia adapter, I opened Revit and it worked again. Sorry, I'm Brazilian and I used the translator.

Hi @jcosme

No need to be sorry. You did a great job by taking the time to post what you tried and how you got your issue resolved. KudosSmiley Happy

Install/ reinstall libraries have worked for few customers, and not always specific to the graphics card, though it is good practice to check and update drivers from manufacturer's website from time to time.

However this material browser issue is specific to each case, so I request all the people to send us your journals and system file. Adding @Anonymous, @Anonymous, @Anonymous **

I can share a private folder for each of you if you do not want to post the files publicly. Let me know if you have any questions.

This issue is in progress for @ToanDN who provided us with the required information. Thread HERE

**Looking forward to your reply updates.

Hi @Viveka_CD,
In my computer it only worked with version 353.62 of the driver, and I still had to prevent Windows from updating it automatically.

Hello!
I've been fighting thru the same problem of many people and finally I found also my direct padron problem!
I uninstalled and installed in many different ways and saw many versions but finally I ended up in the option that I could turn on JUST the CPU graphic driver!
And suddenly worked!

So there is for sure a problem with my Nvidia driver
(GeForce 610M)

Finally I can now see the materials and later I will try to find a solution about the other graphic board...
Hope I could help with some solution that might show up in the next updates because with Revit 2017 I haven't that problem so besides a problem with my driver (probably) there's also a compability with Revit 2017 which doesn't appear in Revit 2018.

(it's not a defenitive solution but faster that may help someone like me)
Best Regards!
