Revit 2017 - How to update railing family to continuous railing

Hello all!

I am currently trying to make our stairs smarter, and came across that in 2013 they implemented continuous railings to help implement railing extensions.  I currently have railing families, but see no way of enabling this option.

I am open to make them from scratch, but am struggling to figure out how.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Your screenshot is the first step.

Click Duplicate.

Give it a name.

When you click on Rail Structure or Baluster Placement, you can customize the railing to do whatever you want.

For custom handrails / balusters, you may need to create a profile.

NEW>>FAMILY

Start with the Profile template. Draw the shape you need for the cross section. Make sure it is a closed loop. Save. Load it into your project. You will see it when you are in Rail Structure or Baluster Placement in the drop downs when you click on the type of rail or baluster being used.

Once you have the type created, place an example of it. Do the same with the next type that you create. Save this file in a central location to serve as a resource for everyone.

Duplicating was literally all I needed to do . . . thank you so much!
