Revit 2017 display issues with 4k Resolution screens

I'm having display issues with Revit 2017 on 4k screens.

(I found another thread on this that was marked solved, but no actual answer was given)

I tested 2019 & it seems to work as it should, but 2017 has several issues (and we still have many projects in 2017).

90% of the program (Revit 2017) looks correct. But I am having issues with icon sizes, text editing sizes, and schedule (text) sizes.

Examples are attached below.

I need to find an answer quickly so that I know if I need to return my monitors (which I really do NOT want to have to do).

File browser icon/text sizing:

Project Browser +/- signs are tiny:

Icons on the bottom of the windows are tiny:

Even the Revit "R" is smaller than it should be:

Are you on a multiple monitor setup?

Screen display zoom in Windows needs to 150% or lower....as 2017 wasn't 4k compatible.  2018 and 2019 is.

If that doesn't work then you need to adjust your resolution to a 2k level.  HTH.

None have helped.

I appreciate the advice, but it's not looking good for keeping these monitors.

What is your display zoom and screen resolution now?  

I have two 36" 4K screens at home and Revit works just fine on them.  What is your video card that you are using to power your screens?

 I am currently at 200% and full resolution.

 I tried 150% & low resolutions to no avail.

 I'm using 2 27" Dell 4k monitors and I have a NVIDIA GeoForce GTX 1080 graphic card.

Change to 150% and restart your computer...Keeping it at 200% won't help you.  You may have to adjust the resolution to 2560 X

But I know lots of people with those monitors and they work like a champ.

The only people that I know with issues are those using them on Mac's...and the graphic settings have to be tweaked in just the right way.

I tried multiple settings (this time restarting in between).

2560x & 150% made it better, but still not quite right (screen shot below)

I can only seem to get things to be right sized at 2560x & 100%. 

I guess I'll have to see if my eyes can handle everything that small.

Somewhat off topic but... I have a hard time recommending 4k monitors (external; you don't have much option with laptops) to anyone who isn't generating 4k content (stills, animation, etc.).  There is very little benefit to be had for design applications.  If you have to scale up the display to 150-200% to be useable, there is little difference from a more conventional 1080p monitor running at 100%.

I totally agree!

Alas, I am using my station for imagery, animations and VR as well so we thought it best to upgrade.

We're still working out the final solutions with this (and Revit 2019 seems to work great natively) before I will know if the upgrade was a wise choice or not

I run my 4k monitors at 100% display....I use shortcuts 80% of the time.  Love having all the screen real estate.

I also have magnifying glasses to see...so no big deal with small icons.

150% (on 3840) gave me the resolution I needed! I bought a REAL cheap 43" TV, 4K and it's working fine. Like too cheap to pass up. I am also a fan of having a ton of real estate on screen. Also have people needing to review design and detailed info in Revit and Navis, the larger monitor helps out. Going over 43" may be a bit much. Thanks for the tip!

Hello, can you explain furthermore the iMac 4k issue?, I having troubles with mi home iMac; not with the display resolution itself, but I'm having slow framerate and constant crashes.

Depends on what kind of video card was placed in your iMac.   If it's an Intel Iris there isn't much that can be done except to disable hardware acceleration.  Hopefully it is not an overheating issue depending on on where the fan is placed in relation to the video card.

Its a Radeon pro 560 (I don't know if there's intel iris with 4k screens), but I feel like a pending tweak just to run as smooth as Macos

Old thread I know but I'm also considering championing the switch.

4K is fantastic but leads to smaller icons and text when left at 100% DPI. On my laptop (which has a smaller display) I set DPI to 125% but this led to wonky behavior in some of the Revit API interfaces. I eventually switched the resolution from 1080 to 720. Messing with the DPI is never a good idea in Revit IMO.

So 4K isn't quite it (at least for me), and the increased resolution also means that rendering your model in realistic setting takes more out of your PC. I would not choose for 4K screens but QHD (2560 x 1440) and a BIG one (27"?) to get the best trade-off between sharpness, font size and 3D performance at 100% DPI.

In conclusion, bigger isn't always better. If you want everything to look legible at 100% DPI but also want to get the most out of your display real estate (also take annotation sharpness in mind) without forking out unnecessarily for a high-end graphics adapter, then I would have no problem recommending a 27" QHD display. This has the sharpness and font size of a 20" full HD display (common on bigger laptops, most workstation screens are bigger so les sharp) but about 75% more screen space.

I am having the same issue. I've tried every proposed solution found in Revit forums but nothing seems to solve this issue. I have also created a new post to all the Revit forums and no solution still. Even the proposed solution in this forum does not actually provides a solution for this issue...

Is there an official Autodesk support I could contact to find a proper solution to this issue?

(I am having issues with Revit 2017; PC I am using is Windows 10, and I had Revit 2022 version installed prior to the installation of Revit 2017)
