today i have downloaded revit 2016, just want to know that will the products mentioned below will also have 2016 version and if yes , any idea about the timing:

1. revit light analysis

2. revit extensions

3. revit 2015 r2

further, when we install revit 2016 , a new folder by the name of autodesk is been created ( c:\autodesk )and in that folder all the  files are stored( autodesk-revit 2016 & wi )  besides the product been installed under c:\program files/program data/program files(x86).

now is it necessary to retain the folder ( c:\autodesk\revit ) or can we delete it after the installition??

Hello, First, this question was really an installation and plugin availability issue, so I moved it to Revit Architecture. The API forum is meant for programming questions.

I am not sure about those plugin products availability for Revit 2016. I can answer the other part. yes you can remove the c:\Autodesk\revit folder. This is simply used for the install image. Note that for uninstall, it may be required again, but if you keep the compressed installation exe you could run it again and uninstall/change as you want.

Hopefully someone else can help you with the other availability questions.

thanks, kevin

I expect that the typical extensions will be made available for Revit 2016.

Revit 2016 is the follow up of Revit 2015 so not clear when you ask for revit 2016 version of revit 2015?

A couple days ago they offically announced the 2016 products. Just saw that also the building suite is ready for download from the subscripiton pages.

I expect that the extensions will follow in the next couple of days.

The files in C:\Autodesk can be deleted without hampering the function of Revit. They contain the extracted files from the downloaded files.

They are like the installation DVD's. So if you want to do a repair Revit will search for these files. Basically you would then have to extract them again from the downloaded files. So if you have plenty of space on your hadrdisk I would not bother with them.

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

Correct, the extensions will become available over time.

As for deleting C:\Autodesk, that breaks your ability to apply Update Releases, so we'd only recommend it if you're really constrained on HD space.

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to clarify the extracted folder issue. I double-checked with Revit installer team, and you definitely do not need those extracted files, even for updates. You can safely delete the C:\autodesk\Revit files to save disk space. There is another thread here, that provides the same answer:

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/installation-licensing/can-installation-files-be-deleted/m-p/3558602/h...

As others have mentioned, you might want to store a backup in case you need to do a repair or run something else from the installer.

hope it helps,

kevin
