Revit 2016 won't open

It's not necessarily a problem with Revit Architecture, it's more with the entire program. When I double click on the icon on my desktop, the loading screen comes up, but then after a few seconds it closes and doesn't do anything else. I also tried opening a Revit file, but it either does the same thing, or does nothing. Does anyone have an idea of what might be going on? I tried resetting the user settings, but that didn't do anything

Can be many things. But when you post something like this tell a little bit more about your system. Which operating system which Revit version?

Has it worked before or is this a recent issue?

You might want to have look if journal files are created and upload them. If both windows and Revit are recent they should be located in:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Autodesk\Revit\<Product name and release>\Journals

Every time you start Revit a journal is created. It might contain some clues on what the problem is.

Also look at:

-Potential problematic software that might interfer (e.g virusscanner, firewall).

-Check that you have all the latest updates (Windows and Revit)

-Does your system comply with the minimal system requirements. See HERE.

Other (software) issues with your computer?

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

I have a MacBook Pro with Windows BootCamp, and the Revit version is 2016. I first installed Revit in the fall, and it was running just fine. I tried repairing the program, but that didn't help. I also tried reinstalling it, but that didn't do anything either. I turned my firewall off and that didn't make a difference either. There was one time that Revit opened, but an error popped up saying that there was no license and product key. I tried opening the License Transfer Utility, to see if I could put in the product key, but it wouldn't work either.

I'm not sure how you get to the journals. Could you elaborate a little more on that?

Windows and Revit are both updated to their current version, and my system complies with the system requirements.

The hard drive for my mac is damaged, but everything has been running smoothly on the windows bootcamp. I haven't had any issues with any other program, so I don't think that's it. But, if it is, I've already bought a new hard drive, I just have to take it in to switch them out.

What I showed is afolder where the journals are created.

For sxample if I have the wwindows acount on my computer is named Enlint and I have Revit 2016 then the journals can be found in

C:\Users\EnlintDarian\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit 2016\Journals

In there you wil find file like "journal.0199.txt"

Thes files are created when Revit starts up.

No experience with Macs myself. But damaged harddrive will not help.

You mentioned that it was running fine in the fall. Anything specific changed between the period that it worked adn that it stopped working?

The only thing that I can think of that has changed is the hard drive issue. I just tried opening AutoCAD, and that didn't work either. I noticed that I forgot to put the license key in when I first downloaded it, but the program won't go past the loading screen for me to input it.

I'm having the same problems Zest2014, since a Windows 10 update recently (October 2016). Revit will no longer open!!! My PC system requirements are way above what is required so no issue there. Have had other problems since the Windows 10 update, also, including File Explorer not recognising my external drives (though Device Manager does), "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" won't work, and I have to cold boot down my laptop to switch it off! Am in touch with Microsoft but no joy yet. 😞

No, I couldn't figure it out. Something ended up being wrong with the hard drive, so I had to buy a new one and start fresh. I'm sorry I couldn't help!

Thanks for the update mlhendershot.  I don't think mine is a hard drive problem. I have a brand new (expensive, sigh) laptop (with all the system requirements more than enough to Revit's requirement list) and it was working ok until some recent Windows 10 updates and a Windows 10 Pro inplace reinstall (which Microsoft did remotely on my PC to solve some other issues). I'm wondering if I should try reinstalling Revit 2016 student version?  Is anyone else out there having this problem?

Reinstalling 2016 might help. I know of a few people I go to school with that we're having problems with revit after the windows 10 installment. So it could just be something with that.
