Exporting 3rd view for 2d Line Adjustment

Hi,

I apologize in advance if this inquiry is redundant.   My objective is to export or print(to PDF) a 3d view to CAD or as a DWG so I can adjust the line weights/etc in Illustrator.

Background:  The exterior of the building is a bunch of louvers which I modeled in Rhino and brought into REVIT.  There are BUNCH of them and I think this element might be slowing down the process and/or causing additional problems.

I am using Revit 2016 Student Version.

What I have done recently is place the 3D view on a sheet and tried to export it as a DWG. Most of the time when I do this Revit freezes and locks up.  When it does export the file and i open it in CAD I can't find the drawing.

Recently I downloaded CUTEPDF writer and I'm trying to print the 3d view as a PDF via this program.  First try Revit froze when I tried to print to PDF the view.

If someone could provide a step by step to get this I would GREATLY appreciate it!

thanks so much!

Chris

Few things. First of all, why modify lineweights in illustrator? You can control lineweights in Revit.

Bringing 'lots' of foreign (Rhino) objects in Revit indeed tends to slow down Revit. So try to model them natively in Revit.

This might also be the cause for the problematic export.

Some troubleshooting

-Try with a different, small and simple project to export to dwg and see if that works.

-Try with your present project, but remove all non-native (e.g. Rhino, dwg) foreign file formats and see if that works

-Only add a single instance of your Rhino louvres and see if that works.

Basically try to find out when it breaks

I have no probelms exporting sheets with plan layouts, legends and 3d Views to Autocad.

In autocad the sheet will be visble in the layout (paper space) and the views wil also be visible in model space.

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

Instead of importing the louvers directly into revit make them a family first then create the pattern in revit (less detail the better).  Try using adaptive components or dynamo, etc

You can also turn off some elements and do two or three separate exports and layer them up in Illustrator.

You can also manage the line weights and perspective object styles pens, so that you can avoid so many steps.  Go to Manage, Line Weights, Perspective Line Weights.

Export to TIFF or PNG so that you can get the transparent background.dm-LR.jpg

Attached Image using methods as described above layered after.

Good luck.

Thanks for the quick reply! Yeah, I just tried it with the same project, but removed all the rhino objects, and it worked great!  Next, I will try to create the louvers natively in Revit and see how that changes things.

Thanks again!

Best,

Chris
