When trying to install Revit 2016 R2, I get the following error message:
"This service pack could not be installed because it is not designed for the version of revit 2016 that is installed on your computer"
Can anyone tell me what the cause might be please?

Thanks for your reply.
Is application manager likely to do that?
sometimes its not really reliable at times
this can also be caused by running a non english version of Revit and the R2 install is looking for the english version of revit
if this is the case Autodesk would have to fix the install of R2

hi
You must download at the following link 2 Autodesk Revit 2016 Service Pack:
Autodesk Revit 2016 Service Pack 1
Thanks but it's Release 2 not Service Pack 2, which I already have installed
http://download.autodesk.com/SWDLDDLM/Updates/RVT/2016/Autodesk_Revit_2016_R2_Readme.htm
post a screen shot of your revit product about box

that confirms your running Revit ALL in One
now i have to confirm if your actually downloading the revit all in one r2 install and not the revit arch, structure, MEP, or the revit LT version of it
is this the english version?

Yes, it's the English version
In order to troubleshoot this issue, we first need to know which version of Revit you have installed and what is the current build number. The answer to both of these questions can be found in the About dialog. The header of the About dialog will display the name of the Revit version you have installed (About Autodesk Revit 2016, About Autodesk Revit Architecture 2016, etc.) and the build number is listed in the upper right corner (16.0.428.0 is the RTS version, 16.0.460.0 is SP1 and 16.0.490.0 is SP2).
Once we now the exact version installed, we can check if the downloaded R2 EXE file is appropriate. To do so, navigate to the C:\Users\<USER_NAME>\Documents\Autodesk Application Manager\{UUID} folder and check the name of the downloaded R2 EXE. For example, the R2 EXE file for Revit 2016 is Autodesk_Revit_2016-x64_R2.exe while the Autodesk_Revit_Architecture_2016-x64_R2.exe is for Revit Architecture 2016.

Thank you Tony.
The download (via application manager and account management section) is Autodesk_Revit_2016-x64_R2.exe
Build: 16.0.485.0
20150701_1515(x64)
Service Pack 2
Hi Matthew
Thanks for providing that information and I can confirm that you did get the correct version of the R2 installer. The problem is that your current installation of Revit 2016 is an unreleased build, 16.0.485.0, that is not targeted by the R2 installer. I'm not sure how you ended up with this version but this means you'll need to uninstall and reinstall Revit 2016 in order to install the R2 update.
By the way, I should point out that I made a mistake in my last post. If Revit 2016 SP1 is installed, the build number will be 16.0.462.0.

Thank you for confirming Tony, although it's pretty frustrating having to reinstall.
Having had a look back at Autodesk Manager it appears SP2 didn't install and I have the same error message when attempting to install it so I assume something went wrong between SP1 and SP2.
I understand your frustation and if there was another option, I would gladly provide it.
As far as your current state, it appears that you installed a pre-release version of SP2. I'm still not sure how this would happen but will keep an eye out for other instances of this issue.

I not sure what you trouble is, but this update takes a LONG time to install.
I did my laptop and took 15 minutes. Then my desktop, neatly the same.
It looks like its stalled. Try waiting it out.
Reinstall fixed the problem thanks, only took 20 mins to reinstall and install the updates
