Revit 14 linked file graphics column wall overlap

on my current project we don't have any structure modelled (inherited it this way) so everything comes from the struct engineers model, this causes lot's of graphic issues whereby columns i would normally join /cut walls i can't so visually i can see the overlap everywhere.. and it looks very untidy.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what can be done (except modeliing / copy monitoring in the structure? typical example below

Alternative could be to use annotations (e.g. masking regions).

Or create a family with a region included

Or...talk to the structural engineers.

Best alterantive depends on the project. How many instances,  many changes to be expected, control over structural engineers etc.

the project to to large for a masking / annotation solution

so are you saying create a masking region in the column family at ref layer?

An example how I have used it before in a project.

Added a symbol family with a region (1) to the column family

undefined

Added a visbility control to enable hiding the symbol (2).

Further control can be created with the use of visibility settings (3).

Attached the project with the example column included.

This is a bug in 2014.  If you upgrade your project to 2015, it will go away, and the columns will, by default, overlap the wall, rather than the other way around.

I believe the bug originates when you attach a column top or bottom to a floor or roof system family, but after the error appears, there's no fixing it, and it becomes system (i.e. it affects more than just the column that had its top/bottom attached).

Sorry there's not a better solution.

thanks for the replies, i couldn't use the column attached as the project is in 2014, there are 28 architctural models in total so not an option to upgrade at the moment.. nevermind all the structural and mep model as well!

interesting that you say it's a bug, i hope it is a fix for 15 then

Just as an aside, can you describe what coordination workflow requires twenty-eight architectural models? I'm awestruck.

I may have to use this option, what did you do on 3 to change the visability settings.

when I load this column in to another file i can't see the mask, ticked or not ticked
