Reset Shared Coordinates

If you have to update a project based point with shared coordinates is there a standard process for that?

Seems like once you already move your models into place Revit doesn't like them to move again. You get errors saying that the link position cannot be saved. It is as though once you move a shared model into place then you either have to reset that option or create a new datum model to start over.

There's this knowledge network article but it is doesn't go over road bumps like the errors I am receiving.

Here's the Error I have been receiving when repositioning shared models

Hi @thakopian

Sorry to hear that you are facing issues.

Can you share your Revit model and journal with us to troubleshoot further? I can send you a private upload folder.

I agree shared coordinates can be tough when you are halfway through the project.  A general preference is to just get all disciplines to use the same base point whenever possible.

Here are a few references that may be of interest:

Looking forward to hearing from you.

I got an error message on the attachments because of size. If you can send me that folder link I can get it setup.

This project is in C4R but I am using detached models to test solutions.

I will include the detached models including the Datum that has the updated base point position and 2 linked building models that need to be re-positioned and published.

The journal file should have the errors I encountered.

TaskDialog "You cannot save the link X.rvt because it has changes in more than just shared coordinates, which can invalidate local files owned by you."

Thanks.

Do you have a shared folder available?

Revit remembers a file relationship when Acquire or Publish Coordinates has been used. With C4R Publish is disallowed by Revit, only the Acquire Process is available. Publish requires altering a linked file which isn't permitted in the C4R environment...because behind the scenes the project isn't a discreet file like we see in our own projects in folders on our server. You're getting the warning because Publish isn't permitted and Revit is trying to do that when you shift the file it has a shared coordinate relationship with.

You need to disable the Shared Positioning, a property for each linked files relationship to another source file. Once you've disabled this relationship you need to use a different file to temporarily distract Revit from its relationship with the original file by using Acquire Coordinates on this other file. Once that's done you can use Acquire Coordinates on the original but changed source coordinate model.

An alternative is to use Specify Coordinates at Point (SCaP) to identify a specific location and provide specific coordinate values to match up with other models properly. This does not create a file to file relationship like Acquire or Publish Coordinates does. It means you need to use something to mark the relevant coordinates in all the models so they can be positioned properly using SCaP.

Thanks Viveka.

I uploaded a package with the test Datum and 2 linked building models.

My Journal with the error I mentioned before was attached but I attached it again on this post.

Let me know if you need direction on how to link everything or the status of the moving.
