Repeating detail snaps

Is there any way of being able to snap to a repeating detail component? you can snap to a standard detail component but snaps don't work with repeating details. is there any way around this?

have you tried applying a DETAIL group consisting of reference planes?

I set the origin to the bottom right corner this allows for ease of moving and snapping

I'm talking about about being able dimension the coarses in block work etc. see attached, as a repeating detail you can't snap to them

My apologies for the confusion

not sure why you are not able to accomplish this

I created this test and was able to snap to my detail components using aligned Dimensions

check the detail component family to see how it was created.

is the detail component made of individual components or grouped?

maybe settings in your view are set differently?

this worked in both a live model view and a drafting view

is that a repeating detail component? or are they just single detail components that you've stacked on top of one another

single component stacked

I now understand your dilemma

my ignorance is showing I thought it would be something as simple as that.

I tried all options in the Edit type with the same result

it only provides a start and end grip to snap a dimension to

I tried adding reference planes to the family repeating and it doesn't work. I don't think there is a way to do it. You could draw a small line and array it, but if you're doing that you might as well just array your single detail component.

EDIT: If it is just for blocks/bricks, we dimension the entire thing and add a prefix in the dimension string "X brick ="

We had the same problem and used the Array...
