Recap Coordinate system shift/scale issue in Revit

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello everybody,

Using Recap 2017 4.2.2.15 and still have issues with coordinates shifting.

I'm trying to overlay two identical .rcp files in Revit, the only difference between them is that the second one has been cropped a bit in the outer border.

When I check the correspondence between them, I see a slight shift (about 9 cm) between the two identical spot. What happened? The scale is the same and should store the same survey base point.

Did someone experience the same problem?

Hi @Anonymous

I see that you are a new visitor. Welcome to the Autodesk community!Smiley Happy

Which version of Revit are you using? Can you confirm if you have the latest updates installed from your Desktop App for your Revit version?

Regards,

For project purposes (we're using it in order to manage it with consultants)
I'm still using the 17.0.1146.0 20170816_0615(x64) 2017.2.2 version.....

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for getting back so quickly!

I see that you are on the latest update.

  • Another thing to try would be to modify the scale factor. When inserting a point cloud, Revit uses a scale factor, corresponding to International Feet, of 3.280840. The scale factor is truncated to 6 decimal places.

Also, which positioning did you try to insert the file in Revit?

If none of the above work, you can share your files with us to test further, an upload to a private folder which is made available on request.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi there and thank you for the quick help!
Basically they're with the same scale (3.28040, I don't get why honestly, because they were surveyed in meters, and then imported in meters). I'll try
To see if the origin changed in the .rcp file, but should be fine, since they are exactly the same files (the second .rcp was done creating a margin box of the first version).
Other hints? I'll try to send you in case

Hi @Anonymous

I have shared a private folder with you to upload your files. We will need a journal file also to troubleshoot and reproduce this error.

Yes, it shouldn't be an issue when the files are identical.

Meanwhile, can you try the following:

  • Create a new path for the point cloud file (2nd rcp file in this case) (by copying it into a different folder, for example) and use the Reload From command in the Manage Links dialog box to reload the file from the new path.
  • You could try point layout

Let me know if any of this helps, or we can test your files.

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for uploading your Revit file.I see only the cropped version. Can you upload the other files?

Can you also send us your journal file?

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Vivka,
I tried to do a cropped version of file, since the rcs files are bigger than 5.0 Gb (it is the maximum upload allowed to me)
how can I send you one file of the surveys? I'm uploading the cropped version right now, I'd like to send to you one part of the surveys
so you can the issue.

Hi, I managed to crop a smaller version of the files, i still have the issues, so in the folder you'd have

one part of the original, and one cropped rcs from the cropped version (both are rcs. file, the second one is a merge from Recap)

I don't understand what you asked me about the journal file. What is it?

Just to let you know of my tries, I put them both with shared coordinates, I assured they had both of them the same origin (checked from Recap).

and also tried to repeat the import in the 2015 version of the file (I thought there could have been some issues when upgrading the survey file to 2017, but still no solution even with the 2015 version of the two files).

I think there is some scale factor issues when I try to merge and crop the original scan surveys, but maybe you could see something else.

Thank you for the help and sorry for the late reply, I was busy with other stuff

Hi @Anonymous

No worriesSmiley Happy

Thanks for sharing your file.

A journal file is required for troubleshooting and reproducing the issue for a workaround. HERE is more information on the journal.

Upload your journal when possible to the same folder.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Looking forward.

I found the journals folder, and I have like 30 of them!
Should I send every file, or how I know which file is related to that file (I have been working on other files and projects too) ?

Hi @Anonymous

I did not see your journal in the shared folder. Can you try and upload again?

Let me know if you face issues and I can send you another upload link.

Thanks,

Now you should be able to see the journal file in the folder, and the survey scans files too (I don't know why they were placed out of the shared folder you sent me)

Thank you @Anonymous I have received your journal files and Revit file.

We will also need the rcp/rcs files to test, without it the model is blank. We are left with only the section lines.

I have the missing links image uploaded in the shared folder.

Edit: I'm able to download the crop_test_02 rcs file but not the 35017.rcs file. Both files are in the wrong location.

Looking forward to your reply.
