Reading Journal Files - Finding a deleted element

Hello all,

I'm trying to find out why it seems that our CADs keep disappearing. On the latest instance, it was there Friday morning and gone by Friday afternoon. No one recalls accidentally deleting it. The last resort was to parse through the journal file for a clue. I hit CTRL+F and pasted the element ID and nothing. The journal file should contain the element ID of anything that was deleted in that session... right?

pardon the question, but I've got to ask. Are you absolutely sure it deleted was from Project? Maybe it was inserted into a specific view only or maybe there is an override in place that's hiding it.  I mean, I can think of a half-dozen reasons how it could be hidden in the views but still be resident the Project.

You cannot select an element by ID if that element was deleted.

Yep. I went to the last previous version that still had it, got the element ID, searched for it in the model, and got nothing. We also looked at Design Collaboration and it was in red (deleted) in the latest version.

Search for the DWG by name (not Element ID) in Journal then.

@jane.ruizV4DHC, keep us informed if you will please. Love to know why CADs keep disappearing inexplicably from your Project.

Thank you for that! I didn't think to just search for the DWG name. I did not find anything about deleting selected element, but did spot this and wonder if that could have caused it to disappear from view.

[...]ID LEVEL 32 (1_8_).dwg is using a path already in use by another linked model.

I've attached the journal file in case anyone would like to have a look.

Post the RVT and DWG instead.
