R2023 - [Help] Colour Schemes in section

EDIT: Title changed from volume computation to colour schemes - big thanks to @barthbradley for pointing out the easier method

Before posting to this forum, I read through the following links:

Help | About Rooms in Section Views | Autodesk

Help | Enable Room Volume Computations | Autodesk

Help | Use Room Boundaries in a Linked Model | Autodesk

Help | About Room Boundaries in Linked Models | Autodesk

I have three buildings in separate files, and they are all linked onto one site file to create site plans, sections etc. while the rest of the team works on unit iterations. Currently I have the section set up in a very inefficient way where rooms are hatched in with a filled region (picture below). Since units are constantly changing, it would be great if these "hatches" are automated via volumes.

The issue arises where I am unable to view the volumes in section beyond a grey, un-editable box. I have attempted to go into a building file, toggle volume computation to "on", and then go back into the section file where the building is linked and toggle "Room Bounding" on. Rooms are able to be selected, but nothing further.

Essentially, the question is: How can I view and edit volume computations in the section view of a linked model?

an important part would be to assign room colours to the volumes - everything is set up and working in plan.

Any help would be appreciated, or alternative ways to create this type of section drawing. Thank you all very much for your time!

You should be able to TAB-Select them and see their Properties, including Volume, and those Volumes should report in Room Schedule if you check Include Linked Elements.

How are the Filled Regions generated?  Via Color Schemes?

Thank you for your reply - this is what the properties look like when selected, I'm not sure how to progress from here

Oh, I thought you might be using Color Schemes.

You're right! I wasn't aware, turns out our plans ARE set up with colour schemes 🙂
I tried to find out how to apply those in section - but I'm not really understanding the process: https://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2022/ENU/?guid=GUID-F6D566D3-6220-4519-A9F3-E21F3E0F2285

That's not by Volume though. That's by Room Name. I thought this was about extracting Volume.

...like I'm doing here:

Ultimate goal is to have room colours be automated in section - doesn't have to be by volume, as long as the colours can be shown in section and update if changes are made in plan. The section image you shared is basically what I'm trying to achieve

Well, that can be done all day long and twice on Sundays without breaking a sweat.  Are you saying you are unable to in Section Views, but in Plan, you can?

Yes, that appears to be the case! I suppose the question now is - how do I get colour schemes to show in section? (nice rhyme btw).  I'm able to tag rooms, not areas, but I assume that's not the solution as tagged rooms don't show colour. They also don't seem to reach the top of the ceiling……

Apologies for the oversight, I completely missed this image. Something like that would work, I don't need the volume numbers though.

Well, first off, Areas have no Volume. Second, you cannot change Link Rooms in the Parent Project. Third, set the Color Scheme to the one you want in the Section View Properties and then click Color Scheme on the Annotation Tab to place the Color Scheme in the Section View.

What do you mean you don't need volume? The title of your thread - before you changed it - was:

That did the trick! Thank you very much

One last question I have is the issue where it doesn't reach the full extent of the room aka ceiling. My constraints are greyed out in both section and plan - see image

Like I said, you can't manipulate the Rooms in the Link. They are what they are. Learn to love 'em, or ask that they be changed at the source - or don't use 'em at all.  Make the Link Walls Room Bounding and create replacement Rooms in your own Project.
