"Failed to initialize the add-in “[add-in name]” because the assembly “[path to an add-in DLL file]” does not exist" when launching Revit

Hi everyone!

I don't know if I'm in the right forum, but I'm having issues when opening Revit 2022 (with an educational license) after the installation... There is a lot of error messages that pop-up the second I launch the application. This is the type of error message:

"Failed to initialize the add-in “[add-in name]” because the assembly “C:/ProgramFiles/Autodesk/Cloud Models for Revit2022” does not exist" , "Failed to initialize the add-in “[add-in name]” because the assembly “C:/ProgramFiles/Autodesk/Formlt Converter for Revit2022” does not exist", etc.

The error messages are about these add-in: CollaborateDB, Import AXM, Batch Print, Collaborate, CollaborateBrowser, SkyscraperClientHostApplication, eTransmit for Revit, Worksharing Monitor Application, Worksharing Monitor Lauch App, Formlt Conversion...

I tried to follow the steps in that link :https://knowledge.autodesk.com/fr/support/revit/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/FRA/F... but I don't really understand some files locations (they didn't seem to be where they were supposed to be)...

I don't know if someone can help me with that problem considering the fact that I'm new with that program...

Thanks for helping me out!

(Sorry for the french example (I'm using the french version))

Have you loaded all the latest Service Packs/HotFixes?

something like this, but for your version of Revit.

If you don't care about this plugin you can delete this file to clear the error also...

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Revit\Addins\2022\Autodesk.eTransmitApplication.addin

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results

Welcome to the Autodesk forums @BERAI5!

The way an add-ins load into the program is that Revit watches certain folders for a file with an ADDIN extension.

When found, Revit will read the file to find the location of the add-in components (like DLLs).

The error you are seeing occur when Revit finds the ADDIN file, but the DLL that is referenced in the ADDIN file cannot be found. There could be a few reasons for this:

  • The DLL doesn’t exist (could have been deleted through Windows, or may have never installed with the add-in).
  • Revit doesn’t have sufficient permissions (in Windows) to read the DLL file (so Revit can’t find the file).
  • The location is on a network resource (unlikely) which the system doesn’t have access to (due to network/Internet connectivity).

The first thing I would suggest doing is confirming if the DLL does exist in the location specified.

  • If they do exist, then there could be an issue with the permissions (if possible try running Revit as an administrator).
  • If they do not exist, and you don’t know where the DLL are, then I would reinstalling Revit.

Yes I did, but I still have the error messages... Nothing worked, so I will just use Revit and ignore them to see if I really have to consider them or not.

Thank you!

Well, I don't know if they are important or not... As I said, it's my first time using Revit... I will ignore them for now and see if they are really to consider...

But thank you!

Thank you Mr. Coffey, but even if I follow all the steps, it's still doing the same thing... For now, I will just ignore them and see what will happen.

Thank you!

Hello, I have been having the same issue. I downloaded Revit with the student trial and am having the same messages pop up about files not existing. I checked the location and those files are NOT missing, they are in fact in the specified location. I then tried running the program as administrator and nothing changed, the messages still popped up.

Is there anything else that can be done to try and fix this issue? Maybe people have figured out a solution already?

Remove and reinstall the add-ins?

Rob

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

If not already done, I would look at the remaining solutions from this article: "Failed to initialize the add-in [add-in name] because the assembly [path to DLL] does not exist" wh...

If that doesn't help, can you confirm if the error you are seeing is also with the eTransmit add-on (or something else)?
