"Can't Reload Link" or "An Unexpected Error Has Occured..."

We have several buildings linked into a main model. One building link has been particularly troublesome as the model seems to have a glitch/bug.

Any attempt to reload this link via the "Manage Links" window will throw either a "Can't Reload Link" error (with no other information) or a message "An Unexpected Error Has Occured. The previous operation has been cancelled to protect the model from corruption."

Our workaround has been to close the project and reopen, which triggers full (and errorless) reload of all linked models.

On two occasions, an error for one user has caused the building link to unload and propagate to all users. This is a serious challenge as any user attempting to reload via "Manage Links" will get the above error.

The only saving grace is that we found a workaround, which is to "Insert->Revit Link", choose the problematic link as if you want to place a duplicate, and Revit asks "are you sure you want to place another instance (it's already loaded in)", choose yes, and suddenly the link successfully reloads in expectation of placing the new instance. At which point the duplicate link can be deleted, sync to central is performed, and all users sync to central.

No clear error is visible in the journal files.

Invoked HandleDocFailure
Error dialog has no callback because it was not provided in following error in error message 'Can't reload link.
' 1:< Error dialog data for transaction Load Link in Host document
    ' 1:< Error: Can't reload link.

I think you would agree the error messages are opaque and non-helpful. Just wanted to post this here to get some input from the community and help you in return if you have seen this error and are not aware of the workaround we discovered.

you can try to tick audit before opening the link files and try to reload again or try to check if all the user's are in the same build of revit and see if helps?
