quick multi-discipline coordination workflow question...

My office hasn't done a project yet where we have setup a system to coordinate revit models with engineers. Most are still using AutoCAD and the few using Revit only send us their models for reference. I'm trying to figure out how to best use our resources and it seems a multi-discipline coordination workflow where all of our models are linked together would be helpful. I have done some research on how the copy/monitor function, coordination review, interference checking, etc. work but I still have a few basic questions. We don't have any engineers in our office, so we would have to send our Revit files back and forth.

1. If we link our architecture, MEP, and structural models together and a change is made, how does the process of another discipline getting a notification work? Would I have to resend the engineer my model and he reload the link for that information to show?

2. If the only way to be notified of changes is to continually send project files back and forth to reload, how often is this typically done?

The only information I could find online explained what the different functions within Revit do as it relates to coordination, but not much on the actual process of sending files back and forth. Thanks in advance.

Set a protocol to share updated model periodically, typically once a week, and after any major changes that need an immediate sharing.

And since the levels of skills are varies, it doesn't hurt to communicate the critical revisions via a conventional means such as change log, email, etc.

Yeah, shouldn't be much different than coordination done in AutoCAD.

There is also the option of working on the cloud which would allow the other trades to see changes as they are synced.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.
