Proper Use of Building Pads

I have minimal experience using building pads and have created one in a project where it's important to show the topo surrounding my building. The pad is set at the same level and thickness as the floor slab so that the topo is cut in section so the topo hatching won't obscure the floor slab. Is this the proper way to use the building pad?

We always just substituted building pads for floor slabs. I can't see any advantage to having both, it could create confusion. They work fine when used carefully (i.e. no overlaps or gaps). However, Autodesk has eliminated pads in recent releases so it might be best to avoid relying on them going forward. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the reply, very helpful. I assume Revit 2024 does not have the building pad feature based on your comment? How do you cut the topo without it?

I treat building pads as rat slabs / grave layer below the structural slabs on grade.

You don't need to show the Building Pad in View. Treat it as a reference element, akin to Ref. Planes, used to cut the Topo to desired depth.  Hide it in your cross-section views.
