Project Parameters - changing from instance to type

Is there a way to change a project parameter from an instance parameter to a type parameter? I am working in some schedules and one of our parameters was created as an instance instead of a type parameter. A lot of information has already been entered into that parameter category so I'd like to change it to a type rather than creating a new parameter and re-entering all the information. However, I can't figure out how to do that, if it is even possible.

Project Parameters once created as an Instance or Type is set to that.  It cannot be changed after the fact.  You will have to recreate the Project Parameter as an Instance or Type again.

hi @Anonymous,

As @dzanta said, unfortunately you will have to re-create you parameter.

But here is a potential solution for you as copy-pasting / re entering data can be very painful:

Create a second parameter, and then use Dynamo.

Dynamo will allow you to have a direct and live connection between your model and excel.

It requires a bit of work, but it would be very easy to automatize the filling of the new aprameter according to the existing one.

You could then deleted the obsolete parameter and the job would be done.

You need to be confident enough to use dynamo though, but frankly worth the challenge!

Dynamo is not that difficult as well... And is free with Revit

Well, i think actually we can change it, Im using Revit 2022, maybe it works on older versions as well.

If we go inside the family, and find out where the dimension is, there's an "instance parameter" button, uncheck it will become a type parameter.

I've only tried with dimension-related instances, not sure about others.

You are showing a Family parameter - the question was about Project Parameters.

And, I'm pretty sure that doesn't change the parameter but rather changes the list of available parameters to assign to the dimension,

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.
