Project Materials Do Not Show Up In Familiy Editor

I made a family and wanted to assign a material but there are only 7 materials.

I made a fresh start, created another family file and didn't touch anything but same result. So, I cannot see project materials within the family editor (not vice versa). What am I missing?

I think I get it. I will define material parameter in the family editor and assign the material to this parameter in the project.

But it would be good If I could assign a default material within the family editor. I will have to change it every time I load the family.

Just so you know, Project Materials RULE. If your Family uses a Material named "Red" that is red in color, but the Project that the Family is loaded into has a Material named "Red" that is blue in color, then the Family will be blue colored in the Project.  Now, if the Project has no "Red" Material, then the Family will be red colored in the Project like it is in the Family. In other words, the Family will bring its unique Materials with it when loaded into the Project.

Keep in mind that "BYCATEGORY" means the Family will use the Project Material assigned to the Family Category in the Object Styles Dialog Box.

FWIW.
