Project levels vs. site elevation (project base point vs. site survey point)

I'm now working on a real project but started with the building, not the site. The first floor (top of finish) is at level 0'-0" and garage T.O.S. at -1'-9 3/4". I've linked in a site plan where the garage T.O.S. is at 127.17'. (The first floor foundation is given - see attached - not finish floor).

I want to add in the site topography now but want to get the levels correct. I've read around and watched some videos but don't quite get it yet. It's easy enough to do the math and figure out the building levels relative to the site elevations but I'm not sure that it's that simple. At any rate, I'd love to keep the building levels with the first floor finish at 0'-0" but perhaps have the alternate numbers (e.g. Garage = '1'-9 3/4" [EL = 127.17'])

I'm also not sure how best to use the project base point and survey point. Currently, I just moved them to the same point.

I could just go ahead and plunge in, but I spent yesterday in roofing hell, so I don't know if I'll just compound the problem if I don't know what I'm doing. It's my first sloped roof project and if you want a good laugh I can show you the model in its current state.

Hi @rteplow ,

In this case, you will have your Project Base Point elevation the same as the actual site elevation of your first floor (127.17' + 1'-9 3/4") and then you're Survey Point, you could leave it at (0,0,0) or any actual coordinates identified in your site plan.

Then if you want your First Floor Level to show 0'-0", make sure that your level "Elevation Base" should be set to Project Base Point. If you want to show the actual elevation, then change it to Survey Point.

Actually, in this case, the OP would move the Survey Point/Origin down – either manually or by Acquiring Coordinates after moving the Link down.  

...FWIW: Specify Coordinates at Point would be one way to "manually" move the Survey Point Origin.
