Problem with Spot Elevation System Family:

Anonymous

Hello All,

We are having a couple of problems with the spot elevation system family, and I was hoping to see if anyone out there has a solution or possible workaround to the problem.  There are two issues:

The first issue is that the option to show the text "In-line with leader" becomes in active when a custom symbol is used with the spot elevation.  This is a problem because it forces the user to manually position the text value of the spot dimension so it is properly centered with in the symbol.  The symbol CAN be placed above or below the leader.  Please see attachment #1.

The second issue is that when a symbol is used, and the spot dimension itself is dragged below the leader, the symbol being used flips or mirrors around the horizontal axis of the leader origin and appears upside down.  Please see attachment #2 & #3.

I have tried playing around with the "keep readable" option, nested families etc, and have submitted a formal support request to autodesk, but all attempts to fix this have come up short.  If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear it.  Thanks in advance.

The In Line with Leader option is not available for Spot Elevations that contain symbols - this is by design and the behavior is the same as with the OOTB style. You can find this information in the Spot Elevation Type Properties document in the Help Menu, in the Text Location section. If you would like to see this behavior changed, I would suggest providing comments and a business case at our Feedback site.

The flipping issue has been submitted with our development team and they are working to address it in a future release. In the meantime, since your symbol itself is symmetrical, you may want to create a separate text entity/symbol for the T.O.C. note and add it independently. Another option would be to enter it as a text prefix.

Hi Katie,

Thanks for the response.  I have submitted feedback to the development team on the "IN-line with leader" option.  You mentioned this feature is set up this way by design - I was wondering if you knew what the intent behind the design of this feature is, just so I can understand better how it is intended to be used.

Has there been an update to this flaw in Revit, because it still exists in Release 2015 "FIVE YEARS LAYER!!!!!!"

6 years now.... 😉 I have sort of a related issue, is it possible to rotate the text inside of the spot elevation tag? We have plans that are rotated 19 degree from horizontal on the sheet and it would be nice if the text rotated to match the angle instead of fixed horizontal. So far all I can find is an option to set the text to a vertical or horizontal position.

It is not a related question and should be posted in a separate thread. This way when you get an answer and mark as a solution (similar to what the originator of this thread did) you will help others find the same solution when they have the same question.

Cheers and GL

It's ver 2017 now and spot elevations still have the same problem. Is there any plans to fix it?

Just want to keep this subject alive. It is now 2021 and the issue has yet to be resolved.

This was marked as solved, but it's definitely not solved.  At best, "Solved with work-around, but we understand that the settings do not suit your standards and thanks for continuing to be a subscriber after 11 years regardless" would be more appropriate.  Please up-vote as a priority fix.

This is definitely not solved and there should be a class lawsuit.

Imagine, 2-3 seconds to fix one tag and there are thousands of tag per project.

How many projects are using Revit around the world these days?

Who pay for all the time spent? Go figure....

Awfully sorry to hear this has been dragging along for such ages! I asked the development team for you and hope they can make some suggestions. Can you provide a reference number or link to the Autodesk issue you submitted? Thx!

2023 ..... still not updated after 13 years!! The suggested workaround isn't a great option as when you move the spot elevation you still need to move the text label. Please fix this, as well as the ability to change the line type of the leader for a spot elevation. Simple fixes would make a lot of people happy, I'm sure.

Dear Nnatev,

Oh dear, what a shame. If you wish to influence the matter, you could submit a wish for this functionality to the Revit Idea Station. The Revit Idea Station is currently one of the main driving input forces for Revit API enhancements. The Revit development team looks there. Your comment here in the discussion forum might be overlooked, and sit around for another 13 years unnoticed. Whenever you require a new or enhanced Revit product or Revit API functionality, the Revit Idea Station is the place to go.

Please search there for a corresponding wish list entry for the suggested functionality and add your comments to it, or create a new one, if none already exists:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/idb-p/302

Tag it as an API wish:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/idb-p/302/tab/most-recent/label-name/api

Ensuring that a wish gets as many votes as possible helps underline its importance to you and the rest of the developer community.

Thank you!

Cheers

Jeremy

There is already a Revit Ideas post for this, please go vote if you haven't already:

Really, such a simple drafting standard should be built in though.  If it wasn't part of Revit when Autodesk bought it, it's common and simple enough that it should've been added years ago.  Clearly people want it.  It's not super helpful when the only response from Autodesk is "create a Revit Idea" especially when those are generally ignored by the overlords.
