Problem with Print Command after Windows 10 Anniversary Update

Hi to everyone,

I used to run the Revit 2017 version with no problem. After I installed the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, when I select the Print Command, the FILE and PRINT RANGE options are not displayed and won´t respond to any input. Under the PRINT RANGE box, the button SELECT does not respond either. I tried to install another printer (PDF Creator) but the problem remains the same.

To this point, I am thinking that reinstalling Revit will be my only solution.

Has anybody here experienced the same problem? Any help will be deeply appreciated.

Thank you very much, Mark. It is good to know that Autodesk support is concerned about this. I also think it will take a Windows fix to solve this problem. By the moment, in spite of how tempting it can be, I decided to wait before installing the W10 AU.

Today, after reading in these past days how Microsoft released several patches to fix the Windows 10 AU issues, I decided to take my chances and give another try to this upgrade. The installation process took almost two hours and it ran smoothly. When finished, I tested all my applications with no problems. Finally, I opened Revit to test the Print command, and it worked fine. No problems at all. It seems like the Microsoft guys did their job.

I want to say thanks to all of you who kindly gave your opinions and advices through this post. I hope that the W10 AU works fine for you all.

@noelrojas It is good to hear your printing is now working!

Can you let us know what build/version of Windows 10 you now have installed, and which updates?

Mine is still not working and supposedly it has all the latest updates for the 'stable' (i.e. not 'insider') consumer Windows 10 Pro version 1607

I heard via Autodesk that Microsoft have issued some updates to Enterprise users to address the other printing problems, which made me wonder if you have a different version to me? If not maybe I need to do a new install?

”…For some Windows 10 LTSB Enterprise SKUs (those without the November Rollup or Anniversary Update), see the following link.  Please note this does not apply to consumer SKUs.”  Link to the whole article: KB3176493 for Windows 10 and KB3177725 for Windows 7 broke printing in our software

And the fix is available through this link below:

Hi, Mark,

In these pictures you can see my Windows 10 version and the updates I have installed.

This is what I did to re-install the W10 AU: I went to Settings - Upgrade and Security, where I read that my PC was up-to-date, so I went to the "Learn more" option, so I installed it from this location. I guess that the W10 version you can download from here has already been fixed with all the new patches.

I just want to remind you that after my first attempt to install the W10 AU, I had to reset my Computer and re-install the W10 early version. Maybe this will work for you also.

I hope you succeed this time. Please, let me know!

Thanks for that information: My system info is the same (except it is Pro not Home) and printing still wasn't working last I checked

Windows 10 Pro Version 1607 OS Build 14393.105

I need to double check what updates are installed when I am in front of the machine again (I forgot to screenshot it) - but I don't remember there being so many as yours - so hopefully something has updated since I last used Revit on it last week.

I'll update the thread when I have more info

I have no idea why at the moment, but the Revit printing dialogue is now working on my system.

I thought that I still had the problem on Sunday (don't ask why I was working on a Sunday) but today it suddenly was working properly - and I also thought the first time I opened it this morning (to use the work-around) it wasn't.

Have done a restart and it still works now...

There doesn't seem to be any relevant updates/changes to my system since Cumulative System Update KB3176938 which was on 1st

Weird.  I wonder now if I actually checked if it was working at the weekend / last week or just assumed it wasn't (was on a deadline so other things on my mind).

EDIT: Checking my diary I realize that I have barely used this machine for Revit since 1st (apart from this weekend) so am going to assume KB3176938 fixed it and I just didn't check/notice.  Smiley Embarassed

I now have KB3194496 and my print dialogue is broken again too....

I'll report it to Autodesk again, but not expecting a fix soon

At least the R-menu workaround is still working for single prints

@juanjoc_mejia I suggest uninstalling KB3194496* and switching on 'Defer Feature Upgrades' in Updates & Security > Advanced Options which puts you on the 'slow' branch (Current Branch for Business) of Windows 10 - this is how all our office machines are set up so they haven't received the Anniversary Update. Yet. (The machine I have AU on and the issues with is my home machine)

*this didn't work for me immediately - (after 2 restarts) first it wouldn't work on a View but then it did for a Sheet and now works for both ... very odd behaviour.  Please post if you get it working again

UPDATE: As I said, I rolled back the upgrade but the problem still remained after restarting (tried printing from a View). After second restart I tried printing from a View again which didn’t work, and then from a Sheet - which DID work, and now print dialogue works from both Views and Sheets.

One note - the file had just been upgraded from 2016 format, and not previously opened on this machine.

I then tried reinstalling the KB3194496 update (I’m a sucker for punishment) but this time nothing seemed to break. The print dialogue seems to be normal (I tried on several files to be sure). Can this problem be somehow file related? But only with AU installed and/or after system updates?!?

Only other recent installs/updates were Dropbox, Razer, NVIDIA, one of which included MS Visual C++ 2015 - no idea if that is relevant.

See what I found:

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-architecture-forum/buttons-in-print-dialog-box-don-t-work/td-p/3...

Apparently, this problem with the Print Command in Revit is not new!

A suggestion: Download the app PDF Creator, and set it as your default printer. Then, restart Revit. I did it (guess what: I had problems with my Print Command in Revit again!) and the problem was solved.

Hope this works for you!
