Problem with default textures

I'm having issues with the default stainless steel material for a lot of the restaurant families in Revit 2022. They have this weir cut-out pattern to the metal. I tried removing it but all the components are in read-only mode. What is the best way to fix this?

I did uncheck it, it refuses to save it or update the change within the model

Not sure why you cannot save the change but you can always replace the Appearance Asset.

This would work but I am stopped by the same "read-only or opened by someone else" error. I cannot make any changes to the file. Is there a way to stop Revit from assigning the wrong metal material to a ton of its components?

Is is a workshared project?

Are you editing material in the Family Editor or Project?

In both cases where is the file/model hosted?

  1. Local Workstation?
  2. BIM360?
  3. Local server?

It is not work shared. I was editing it in the family editor, these are default Revit library files

Editing the Material is the Family editor does not change the Material of the same Name in the Project. Project Materials Rule. Edit the Project Material and assign the Project Material to the Family.

FWIW: I don't think "Metal - Stainless Steel (1)" is a stock Revit Asset. It is probably a Document Asset created from the "Stainless Steel Mesh - Holes Large" Asset.

Windows permissions issue not Revit. Try the following and check if you still get the same error (in principle you shouldn't)

  • Open the family from file menu or edit it if in a model
  • Save As ... same name under a local secondary drive (not C:\)
  • Edit the material / apply and save

When you open the family...Do not double click in the browser. It does that Read only Lock sometimes
