print to pdf (naming) in Revit

Hello

Something I've been wondering for a long time is how the naming of printing to .pdf is working.

When I select the 3e option (multiple sheets)  Knipsel.JPGevery single sheet gets the correct name as I've named it, however when I use the current window option the sheet will be printed with the name of the model.

I don't really understand what the naming option on the following screenshot does:

Knipsel2.JPGI don't want to manually insert the names for every single sheet.

Does anyone know what I'm missing here?

Not sure this answers your question, but the name you put in that box will be the prefix name for job, so to speak. It will be followed by the name of the view. You'll receive other prompts, when it begins printing, which will allow you to change the name and location for each view that prints.

Bottom line: No; you don't have "to manually insert the names for every single sheet".

When I enter a name it actually mentions that the path is incorrect...what path??Smiley Happy

It doesn't really look like a prefix.

Apparently it's the location where you save the pdf, but you'll be asked for another save location when you  push the OK button at the bottom of the menu.

You still need to specify a path...  c:\something.pdf

I usually ignore the Revit prompts though, as I have a specified path in the pdf printer (adobe and bluebeam) that overrides what Revit shows so I don't get asked to name all my sheets.

You need to put the whole path AND job name (e.g. prefix) in that box. It's the same protocol as saving any file in Windows.  Use the Browse button to navigate to the Folder that you want to save the job to.  You can even create a Folder in the process.

You know, it may be better just to test it. Probably make more sense to you then.  Open a Sample Project and print a couple of its views to a PDF Test Folder.

I also have been wondering why you need to put a name in the file location, and then when you print it, it asks you again where to save it?? Didn't the File Name location just tell it a name and location?

That's usually an issue between Revit and the PDF Printer.  If you use an add-in like Xrev it doesn't ask you twice.
